***Official Jaguars @ Panthers Game Day Thread***
|
Welcome back for Week 5 NFL Game Day Jaguars Nation! A battle of 2-2 teams clash this afternoon, as our Jacksonville Jaguars are in Charlotte, North Carolina, to play the Carolina Panthers, in the seventh regular season meeting of the 1995 NFL Expansion Teams and the battle of NFL teams named after big cats.
Rookie Gardner Minshew will also try to win his third straight start as the Jaguars QB, and win three straight out of his four starts. Both Jacksonville and Carolina are tied ar 3 games apiece after six regular season meetings, but the last game was won by the Panthers, defeating our Jaguars 20-9 at then-named EverBank Field back on September 15, 2015. Jacksonville also playing their first regular season road game in Carolina in 8 years, but seek only their second road win in Charlotte in more than 20 years. Jaguars only road win at the Panthers was their 22-20 win in then-named Ericsson Stadium back on September 19, 1999. Mostly cloudy skies, but no rain, at 74 degrees, is the local gamecast inside Bank Of America Stadium, for the 1:05 PM Eastern Standard Time kickoff, along with 5% precipitation, 61% humidity, and mild eastern winds at 3 miles per hour. Head Linesman Alex Kemp leads his NFL officiating crew to supervise the live game action on the field between the Jaguars and Panthers. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as the Jaguars and Panthers players, and their coaching and support staffs, may wear NFL pink colored team apparel both on the field and in the sidelines, to support the NFL's annual Crucial Catch campaign. NO injuries, let's hope Gardner Minshew and the Jaguars win their third straight game for the Jaguars at Carolina, and take a 4-3 lead in the regular season rivalry. GO JAGUARS!!!!!!! Well I mean technically it's not "no injuries" since there are two people out, although it's only really one with an injury. Having said that, let's make this team 3-2 today!

Having said that, let's make this team 3-2 today! Yeah, it would be nice to see Oliver back in action, but he's still out with injury. It's incredible that he's the only major injury. I see our Nickelback and backup DE are also questionable and might not play. Still, even if you count them that's only three injured players. How often do we see that?

I understand Oliver wants to play, the team wants him to play, everybody wants him to play, but this repeating cycle of 'Oliver will play - Oliver will not play' is beginning to wear. He has a "significant hamstring" injury. Nothing heals a hamstring injury but time and rest. What's going to happen is he will be put in before he's ready, re-injure himself and be out definitively the rest of the season. Just make the declaration now that he will not be back until at least after the bye week. I can only think the reason they don't is because they want to save a spot on the returning IR list.

It's 10 a.m. Time to commence Crowns and Cokes. ................well, maybe I commenced an hour ago.
Don't judge me. Jags win BIG!!! 42-10. BOOM!!
Looking to troll? Don't bother, we supply our own.
Let Oliver heal, rather have him here for the playoffs, than in too early. Offensive line injuries killed this team last year. The unit is performing just fine considering what we saw from it last week! Giving Minshew more weapons as the season progresses will make us more potent than to send a guy out there who is vulnerable to be taken out for the season due to injury.
So last week we jumped from two deep passes the first two starts to six on first and second down. What’s the over under on the deep passing game going to be in this game on first and second down given we are facing the No.1 passing defense in the league! Let’s say it’s six, is anyone picking over? Minshew torches CBs, throws it precisely into coverage for one spectacular catch after another from our no name receives. I have no qualms about taking the over on this one for this game. It’s my key to victory! Hopefully the coaching staff will put more faith into Minshew this game!
Are Catalon and Lofton on the team payroll now? We get them for the third time in the last four games.

"AZANE"
Battle of the backup QBs
https://twitter.com/Noles_Jags/status/11...22432?s=20 CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Minshew Mania meet Anonymous Allen. Two young backup quarterbacks with different looks but similar styles have taken over in Jacksonville and Carolina, energizing their teams with back-to-back victories after 0-2 starts. On Sunday, Jacksonville’s Gardner Minshew and Carolina’s Kyle Allen will square off looking to extend those streaks. Minshew, a sixth-round pick out of Washington State, has developed quite a following in Jacksonville since taking over in the season opener when Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles went down with a broken left clavicle. He has the highest QB rating (106.9) of any rookie in his first four games in the Super Bowl era while leading the Jaguars (2-2) into a tie for first place in the AFC South. He’s the NFL’s highest-rated QB in the red zone this season, too, completing 8 of 11 passes for 57 yards with five TD passes and no interceptions. Minshew is dealing with a sprained knee , but is expected to start Sunday. Allen, who went undrafted in 2018, has rescued Carolina from two losses at home to start the season by beating Arizona and Houston on the road after Cam Newton decided to rest his injured foot. Allen is looking to become the first QB to win his first four career NFL starts _ he also won in Week 17 of last year _ since Kurt Warner, although he’ll need to do a better job with ball security moving forward.... https://twitter.com/AP_NFL/status/118083...80992?s=20
Start Cam Robinson, effectively run the ball, hold them to under 20 pts. And we win.

Relatively unknown QBs tend to have a lot of success against this defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Allen come out gunslinging, finding huge gaps in our zone. I think Minshew can keep up, though.
I have concerns about passing against this panthers secondary and concerns about our own banged up secondary holding up.
This isn't a very good matchup for us right now unless Fournette and the front five can do an encore of the second half in Denver.
Wooooohoooo!! Its game day baby!!
Let's keep this rolling! Minshew Magic has tamed the mightiest mountains in the Rockies, now can this Mississippi Mustache conquer the Carolinas? Minshew 2 game win streak, Kyle Allen 2 game win streak. It ends for one today. Pressure that Panthers O line. It's a weak spot and McCaffrey becomes a lot more manageable if we get pressure. And stop Keuchley. I dont know how but that guy is a game wreaker. Let's go Jags!!
