Rams - Soon to be Cap Hell
|
https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2019/10...-starters/
2020 -> Goff, Gurley, Donald, an Cooks will account for $95.1 million against the cap. Add in Ramsey’s cap hit of $13.7 million and the Rams are quickly up to $108.8 million for the top five players on the books. 2021 -> What’s scary is those numbers aren’t going away anytime soon, either. In 2021, here are the cap hits of those players – excluding Ramsey, who will be a free agent. Goff: $32.5 million Donald: $27.9 million Gurley: $13.2 million Cooks: $16.8 million Total: $90.4 million (without Ramsey) We show less advertisements to registered users. And folks this is why you must build thru the draft. Too bad they will go 5 years without owning a 1st round pick.
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
Also consider they will need to rebuild that oline. This was known even before the season started and the olines poor play.
They have just enough cap to grab one premier linesman but with no high draft picks to draft for need. I think theyve priced themselves out of the ability to rebuild their oline
And with the next CBA they will use leverage to screw over small market teams and make the current system a worry of the past.

What are the Rams thinking? Feels like a total emotional desperation move. They have problems all over the field, especially at offensive line. They have already overpaid for a questionable quarterback. If you are gonna give away those picks (which they will end up needing badly) and paying Ramsey what he wants, you should at least do that for a position that can influence every snap of the game, like a DE. None of the elite franchises that win consistently are centered around highly paid corners. They better win immediately to justify such a questionable move. They may be hurting for years without the ability to build with some draft picks if this doesn't work out. We had no choice but to trade in this situation
He's just a rental to see if he can help light a fire and make a run for the playoffs. Then they'll trade him to the Raiders or Titans.
O.K.
I get it. We're all over the Rams because of Ramsey's trade. Who gives a flip about their cap #s? We acquired serious value from them and he's not guaranteed to resign w/them after this season. Let's Move On Jaguar Fans. NH3...

I was told the cap is no longer a thing, sir. Have you consulted the message board cap overlords on this before posting?

They are trying to win a super bowl now. That's the goal, not to keep rebuilding and never be really good. I believe is going to end up with the Titans eithe way

I don’t exactly think he will be met with applause..
Not to belabor the point of how well one team is run but the Patriots were skewered a little when they traded Brandin Cooks after one year (and a Super Bowl appearance) with them for the Rams #1 pick. Cooks was a good fit with Brady, with the team and with the city. So why trade him away?
Money. The Rams extended him with a second contract and he is now roughly 20-25% of their cap problem, using the OPs numbers. Meanwhile, the Patriots enjoyed their year with him and paid him on the last year of his rookie contract, then used the #1 pick they got to draft either Isiah Wynn or Sony Michel and will enjoy 4 years of them on an inexpensive rookie contract (plus the 5th year option if they want as they are #1 picks). Then...they will be cut (a la Trey Flowers DE Detroit Lions multi-millionaire.)

Hopefully the Rams completely implode next year. Wouldn’t it be great to get a top 5 pick in 2021?

He is also going to be an UFA after this season. Doesn't make much sense since it doesn't really do much for either of the teams involved other than giving the Dolphins a 5th round pick. He's on IR now and a UFA at season's end so basically the Dolphins (by paying his salary instead of LA) are giving the Rams money and probably a conditional 7th (likely not to materialize, probably based on Talib's playing so many games for them at some point) for the 5th rounder. In effect, they are just buying the pick.

It's like the Osweiler deal from a few years back where the Texans gave Osweiler and a second-round pick to the Browns in exchange for a four.

I hope the jags are able to benefit from these kinds of deals in the future. I love the idea of taking a pick just to get rid of a bad contract.
