A former GM suggests to The Athletic a Nick Foles to Chicago trade

QB position too important, keep both thought this year. Probably through 2020, then decide.

Can they even trade Foles while he's on IR?

Well nothing yet, unless you subscribe to his philosophies.

Then you would be a "Ketchmanite."

Files isn't going anywhere this year or next imo. Not a bad position to be in. Hopefully he plays some after the bye as we barely got to see the team with him.

If he's playing, then that's fine, but it's absolutely a bad position to be in if you're paying a guy $22m+ per year to be a back up QB..

So you're telling me Coughlin ran off another one of our great players... Shocker, who would have thought.

Seems to be a trend lately of players not wanting to be here since he came back. I wonder why..  Laughing

I'm not a TC fan these days, but that one was definitely on Blake.

It was on the front office for keeping Blake as long as they did and extending him.

And who do you think decided to keep and extend Blake?

But that's fine I'll bite, maybe it was because of Blake...

But then how do you explain Robinson wanting to go too another team with a terrible QB in Trubisky, who had just put up a 2.1k passing yards, 7 TD and 7 INT in 12 games prior to him signing... If it was all because of Blake, why would Robinson choose to go play with another terrible QB?

The earliest we trade Fole is after this season. Move him before June 1 and his cap number goes down 3.35 million for 2020 then he's off the books in 2021, so that's feasible. Trade him now and his number this season goes to over 30 million and we dont have that space.

A 2020 2nd was the projected asking price

What do you think about a Foles to Chicago trade

No.

If he can't beat out Minshew, then I'd look to trade or release him.  But so far, he hasn't had that chance.  I'd wait until we know more.

We finally seem to have solved the QB position, and now we seem to have 2 good ones.  I think I like that.

It's really not a bad position.

The Jags will have 11 other teams that will be spending more than them at the QB position in 2020 as things stand. Four of those teams are likely to finish below .500 this season.
They aren't crippling themselves with Foles salary and they have several other outlets for clearing cap space.

They also stand a good chance of landing a couple of immediate rookie starters in the next draft which may further aid their cap space.  Spending too much on the QB position for a couple of years while you assess the FA and groom the young player is not a bad thing at all in my book when you can afford it.  And the Jaguars can afford it right now.

Poor ARob. Went from Bortles to Trubisky. If that guy ever had a real QB, he would put up some unreal numbers.

He had some awesome routes yesterday including his TD.

Yeah poor A-Rod where is best season with 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns with Blake Bortles as his QB. My man please use logic and not feel bad for a man who chose to be in these situations. It's not like he had fulfilled his skills to be a number one receiver either so some of this blame need to go on him as well. People's need to stop looking into the past and stop excusing him for his underachievement.

I honestly think Bortles was a big reason he didn't want to be here...
And nobody knew yet that Trubiscuit wouldn't develop.
We also don't know what was offered to ARob. But yes, we let him walk by not over paying him, though in hindsight over paying him probably wouldn't have been.

I don't think the coach staff is helping the kid out any. Bringing him back from injury and having him drop back and throw 55 times vs 7 runs is silly.
ARob was the only thing that was producing for them this past weekend. Think he had like 8 catches for close to a bill.

OT:
Foles isn't going anywhere until the off season at the earliest. (If at all)

Why we're so sure we knew that Blake was the reason why he didn't want to be here when he had his best season under Blake Bortles. I do believe Blake Bortles played a role only because the contract the front office want to give him was incentive lated. I believe the philosophy and structure of the offense at the time and Blake's inconsistency good or bad made a person like A-Rob take to guarantee money instead even though Mitchell trubisky was coming off of his rookie season.
