The future of MJD based on local media speculation

Quote:Poor Greg Jones thought he was going to win more games than the Jags this year. Quote:Poor Greg Jones thought he was going to win more games than the Jags this year. I'm still Gloating over the fact that he chose lesser money to play for a supposed playoff contender. He ended up w/another scenario of coaching changes and Hard Knocks as Poz rocked his boat this year... NH3...

Quote:I was thinking tacks Nah, TMD would mention that he said we should have traded MJD a long time ago, and that we could have traded a 4th for Bryce Brown. MJD to the tacks would be ![]()
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
I posted a couple months ago that the Jags should offer him a 2 year deal worth around 3.5 mil a year with the chance to make another mil or so in bonuses if he performs and stays healthy. But - I stated it was likely someone would offer him more than that.
I was told I was an idiot by a couple of posters of course. Well - If I'm an idiot - DiRocco is too. http://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jag...ay-be-gone Quote: Quote:The Jaguars want Jones-Drew back but on their terms, which likely is a two-year deal with incentives that could be worth up to $5 million per year. Jones-Drew said it's about the money, and the Jaguars, despite having roughly $54 million in cap space in 2014, aren't going to be willing to go higher. Jones-Drew tried a hardline approach with the Jaguars once, holding out all of training camp in 2012 and most of the preseason in an effort to get a new contract, and it didn't work. I mean, not because of this or anything, but because of stuff like your fashion sense and overall lack of any lego figurines on your desk.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! But - I stated it was likely someone would offer him more than that.I think the contract model D-Rock put in his article is pretty much what I would see as an acceptable extension. But, his point about MJD not looking like the same back this year means I'd load that thing up heavily with incentives so he's not getting paid to cheer the team on from the sideline. In the end, I think some team will walk in and overspend for his services, and that's fine. This team knows what his worth is to them, and they aren't going to overstep that to keep him around. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Freddy went too but came back maybe the same will be true for Maurice Jones-Drew if the fans show how much we appreciated his services over the years.

Let him make his rounds and see if he is offered anything big. If not, bring him back for a low amount but a high bonus rate for possible successful year.

The only Jaguars free agent Caldwell wants to speak with is Chad Henne, probably to return as a draft pick's 2014 backup. Re-signing Jones-Drew is low on Jacksonville's list of offseason priorities, if it's even a goal at all. "It takes two to tango," Khan said of Jones-Drew, a career Jaguar. "Personally, I would love to see him back but it has to make sense for him. Dave has been on the record with what we want to do and that’s absolutely true - RotoWOrld
I dont think Maurice will be a Jaguar at the start of the season this year.
I could see a team paying franchise tag type prices for Maurice Jones-Drew and using him more as an offensive weapon, that is involved more in passing game as a receiver not soley on screen passes.

That's more than $8 million. Even if it's transitional type money, we're talking more than $6 million. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Let him go, regardless of salary. He's on the downside, and this team needs to develop youth.
You are right FBT, I'm drunk on the Teal Koolaid, and very bias as I own several Maurice Jones-Drew jerseys. He has been a great Jaguar, from press conferences, to toughness & his ability to play & lead.
According to RotoWorld, they only have him as the #6 RB in FA below R. Jennings (go figure and i disagree with it whom they have as #2 ben tate as #1). According to Bleacher Report, The Ravens are expected to pay Eugene Monroe around 7 million a year (GM Dave trading him away for a 4th & 5th pick) and they didnt show Maurice Jones-Drew in the top 25 Free Agents available. Maybe the Jaguars will match whatever offer is out there for him in hopes of keeping him here? I initially thought they really wanted to keep him around, but I believe in reality, any offer that's even a smidgen over the league minimum would be too much from their perspective. I'm convinced they're ready to move on. As long as he gets an offer, that's all they care about. Some team will pay him. The Jags won't match or top any offer. Never argue with idiots.
