Locking up Freddie was a good move. He has MVP potential.

 

Nice to see they didn't overspend on Heyward. I love the guy, I just want to see him do what he was doing prior to taking a ball to his jaw more consistently before buying into him full bore.

I'd love to see him (Heyward) return to 2012 form and I think he can.  Nice that they could keep him at a somewhat reasonable figure.  Cheap - if he turns in 27 homers and 80+ RBIs again.

Although he was somewhat forced into it, moving Heyward to lead-off was a stroke of genius by Fredi.

Jason Heyward has great tools but I worry about that jaw hit too. He's had all winter to think about it too.

 

The Red Sox aren't doing much up here, I think they learned their lesson with the Crawford/Gonzalez situations. Last year they concentrated on signing veterans like Napoli, Gomes, Victorino, etc to high dollar but short contracts. They are limiting their exposure and were lucky to steal one last year when everything came together for them.

The O's are reportedly looking to sign A.J. Burnett, and they need to do something with Chris Davis before he hits arbitration. Here's to looking forward to another playoff chase that ends in Third place or worse in the AL East.

Heyward's problem is he is a very slow starter.  He has kind of been bit by the injury bug too.  I love that guy though.  He plays the game the way it should be played, and he hits monster home runs.

All star Catcher, All star 1st baseman, all star third baseman ( who is ahead of schedule with his injury rehab, cleared for some baseball activity, very likely to be ready for opening day) all star short stop, all star center fielder all star right fielder. Lough is an upgrade over Nate M. Like Buck said, "if we pitch better, we'll better".

I really thought they were going to make a run at Cano, simply because he makes so much sense. Excellent 2nd baseman, lots of years left, supposedly fits in well in a locker room. I get why they would balk at that price tag, but don't you at least have to kick the tires on a guy like that?

 

I still think the biggest fact facing them is that until their pitching improves to the point where they can contend with the Offenses that they face, they really aren't going to make significant strides, just like in that quote you posted.

 

Also, I get the feeling that Boras is pushing Davis to test Free Agency; just my opinion though.

I'm a Rays fan, and I never understood the Red Sox signing Crawford.  Why sign a guy that has amazing range in left field to a team that has no left field?  Honestly, all of those highlight reel catches he made at the Trop were just going to be balls he'd be watching bounce off of the green monster.
