Wash Comments on Run Defense

This defense is built to play with a lead. It's been that way since 2017. The issue is that our offense can't keep a drive going to save their lives.

So, if we win the coin flip and defer, we're screwed if the defense allowed an opening possession score. That's a defensive problem.

Good posts guys, you've hit the points. Scheme, talent, football awareness and lack of trying to adjust.
In some ways, I just want us to go real simple. I know we are 4-3 but were getting too easily handled up front. Go basic 3-4, man coverage outside. 2 safeties deep or 1 droping down to help LB's and just pick 2 of the LB's to blitz. 5 man rush every time, allows us to overload or disguise, get Yannick and Allen on TE's so more pressure. Then it's just adjusting blitzers or personnel. Man outside all day, they'll get burnt a few times, but that's why you have 2 safeties to help cover the deep ball and at least it may make a QB hold the ball a second more rather than the easy completion in the soft zone.
The article only referred to giving up 480 rushing yards over the past 2 games. They failed to mention we gave up over 200 years vs the Texans as well so this problem has existed over the past 3 games, which means Wash has had over 3 weeks (including the bye week) to fix the issue. This isn't something that just transpired 8 days ago.
Why not switch to 3-4 like some have said? I would bet if you did the research, most of the teams who have won super bowls in the last 10-15 years run 3-4 instead of 4-3... 4-3 is dated

We don't have a nose tackle or the 3-4 dline. I guess everyone forgets all the waste work back in the day on 3-4 concepts that we tried to use but didn't have the players to execute.

The differences between 3-4 and 4-3 is overstated. 2) We have actually run 3-4 looks a decent amount this year. Yannicks sack yesterday was from a 3-4 alignment. 3) Unless you have a 3-4 master like Fangio/Wade/BB/Pees I'm a bit skeptical of it. Blitzing more means less bodies in coverage which means your coverage assignments have even less lee way for error We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Defense is built to play with a lead, offense refuses to block to gain lead, coaching staff is embarrassing.
You win in the trenches. No matter how much they change the rules that’s an absolute truth. Unfortunately in addition to changing the rules they also call holding with the consistency of a teenage female’s confidence. And our Oline is garbage, so I don’t really deserve to sit here and say “if only they let it be about the play in the trenches!”...we’d still be getting whipped. Always a good sign when your Oline can’t block, your LBers can’t tackle, your WRs cant catch balls that hit them in the hands, and your coaching staff is asking around the league about employment opportunities. |
