There's nothing wrong with wanting our ring of honor to be more selective. Brunell was good but he was never on Freddy T or Boselli's level. Once you start to admit players that were good but not "special" it sort of devalues the whole thing.

I'm not for putting Jimmy in the ring... He would have been our Reggie Wayne if he didn't have the off field problems. Honestly I was surprised they were putting Brunell in the ring. I love those memories and the win in Buffalo/Denver. I thought the team was looking to be a tad more picky. In light of other posters pointing out the community stuff I guess I can see it. I just figured it would have been awhile before anyone else was hoisted up there.

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

Honestly I was surprised they were putting Brunell in the ring. I love those memories and the win in Buffalo/Denver. I thought the team was looking to be a tad more picky. In light of other posters pointing out the community stuff I guess I can see it. I just figured it would have been awhile before anyone else was hoisted up there.

IMO, I think Mark just misses out on bring the Pride. Put him in that 'Very Good' category of players. The Pride should only be comprised of the elite. I'm guessing Brunell's charity work/involvement in the community helped his case.

 

With Mark in, I think Mojo will eventually be in, too.

I like Brunell for what he means historically for this franchise, but his pinnacle of success was pretty short, and once he lost the ability to run, he became just another guy back there.  He was a solid starting QB, better than anyone this franchise has had in that position since his departure, but to say he's deserving of being in the Pride tends to show that the new owner needs any possible distraction he can find to keep the fans interested during this horribly awful season. 

 

Keenan and Jimmy should go in since we're just giving these things away now.  They're equally deserving with Mark.  Give all three of them one spot on the Pride and move on.  The next one to go in will be Coughlin when his career is done.  At the rate things are going in NY this year, we might be able to fit him in before Christmas.

I think Brunell deserves to be in.  It's not a unanimous first-ballot type selection but I think his body of work here was enough to be selected.

 

Keep in mind that Donovan McNabb was recently added to the Philadelphia Ring of Honor and Brunell's career statistics are actually pretty comparable.

Is the pride measuring the man or just the player?

 

If you look at Brunnels stats they weren't impressive but he did have by far the most success of any QB for this franchise.  4 playoff births and 2 AFC Championship games are impressive on a resume.  People Forget how good he played in some of those playoff games.  His mobility was a big factor in us getting upsets over the Bills and the Broncos.  He was the QB of the golden era of the Jaguars.   He is a good role model in the community.  I do believe he deserves to be in the pride.

 

Jimmy Smith:  By far our best receiver and should be in the HOF one day. In the pride are we measuring just the man or just the player?  Jimmy Smith is no role model and now has more then a couple of drug bust on his record.  I believe he is in prison right now.  As a player no doubt in my mind he belongs in the "pride" of the Jaguars.  If we are really meaning "pride" then no he don't belong there.  A junkie drug addict does not mean pride. 

 

Keenan should be in the pride. Great player

I would be willing to bet if Brunnel never tore out his knee he would be a consideration of the HOF.   That injury and brace he use to wear just killed his mobility.

Good thing it is the Bills and not a team guaranteed to blow us out like the first four. Brunell was our quarterback when we upset the Bills in Buffalo during the 1997 playoffs so it also is a fitting opponent for the ceremony. I will definitely wear his teal jersey and, if I can go to that game, make a sign to show my support. He was the player who made me a Jaguars fan and my favorite player in the NFL so I will be livid if I can't go to that one.

The Hall of Fame!  Look at his stats on Footballreference.com.  He was a barely above average QB who once threw 20 INTs in a season and threw for more than 20 TDs as a Jag only twice.  I think Peyton Manning almost has 20 in 4 games.

 

Jeez, louise.  To be frank, he was only viewed as good, because most of Jaguar team history has been crappy.  He's not in the HOF caliber QBs stratosphere.  Even his 'mobility' was overrated.  He had nowhere near the mobility of the 'mobile' QBs today.

I was probably to young to truly appreciate what Brunell was for this franchise.  However, he led the Jaguars to their most successful years and was a part of establishing this team.  His tenure was ultimately short, but his historical impact is undeniable.  I think he's a good fit next to #71 up there.

To someone who has lived in Jacksonville during the entire history of the Jaguars it has always seemed pretty obvious that Weaver, Boselli, Taylor,  Brunell, and Coughlin were locks for the Ring of Honor. And in order of the retirement from the game.

 

The pontificating about "standards", blah, blah, blah is very humorous and entertaining. It's like were talking about the College of Cardinals.
