Going back to bed, this is just too depressing

Just waiting for Marrone to let Wash go.  (and Warhop)

Then maybe, just somehow maybe I can at least try to get on board with this.

I can stomach the Caldwell for one more year on a short leash thing, but I have a tougher time with the HC retention after the number of ugly losses in 2019. Not how I'd have done it.

Welp...

See you guys in March-April. Have a good new year everyone.
Try to not let this spoil real life for you too much. Lots of living to do outside of Jaglife and Duuuuval.

It's time for a break. I'll be back as blindly optimistic as ever after a solid cool down period.

I’m having flashbacks to my teenage years. This is just like growing up rooting for the Falcons. They sucked so bad most of the time. But they were the home team because I lived in Georgia. So I always had to choose a second team that was a winner to also root for. Because the Falcons for sure weren’t winning anything. Looks like I’m in the same position again as a older man.

The only defense to this move is that perhaps the rumors about Marrone wanting GM15 and not foles were true, and Khan wants to see what the staff can do with him without Coughlin trying to force them to start Foles

A head coach on a short leash has zero options to bring in new coordinators or staff coaches. We gonna get the same Floppy Sprinkles combo again next season ya'll.

I've said this before but Dom Capers is on the staff. Maybe he'd be willing to take over as DC. There's also been some speculation about how a 3-4 would work for this team and Capers runs a 3-4 defense.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

True, unfortunately. No DC is going to want to come to Jacksonville when the HC is on the hot-seat. Maybe promote the DL coach up? Wash just cant stay.

Ooo I forgot Dom Capers is on the staff. Yes, promote him and move to 34.

I'm just spitballing here.  There has to be a reason why we're keeping these guys, and past performance obviously isn't it.

I think it's the Minshew factor. Caldwell and Marrone have sold Khan on the idea that Minshew is the future (he probably is). If he turns out not to be and the team keeps losing, Caldwell and Marrone are fired, a new coach comes in, Foles' contract finally goes from a massive dead money hit to a marginal cap savings if he's cut, and the team's first-round pick is probably high enough that it could be packaged with the Rams pick and a couple others from the same draft to go after Trevor Lawrence.

Honestly, that could be it as much as anything else. The quarterback depth chart is pretty well set as-is unless the Jaguars can unload Foles on someone else or get value back for Dobbs, and you'd be greatly limiting your coaching pool candidates by telling them that they're stuck with Minshew or Foles if they, for example, want a guy like Justin Herbert instead.

Either that or add another game there. How else one explain this crazy decision? I believe Khan likes Marrone and feels he deserves one more year and he'd rather wait until after next season to fire both if (when) things go badly again.

Capers can call a 43, but I don't think Marrone would blow up the defense if he's got one last shot.

Figured as much.

I'm hoping against hope Wash is let go at least. I guess we oughta look at 2020 as a trial run for seeing in Minshew's got waht it takes to win even with all the flaws of this team

A second home game in London is inevitable, probably after the new CBA rakes small markets over the coals. Season ticket prices, of course, will not go down now that you're getting six games instead of eight. The Marrone move doesn't have anything to do with it in particular--I think that's some combination of Minshew and Khan being cheap, but I still think his endgame is to put the team in London.

Dearest Shad. How about go to the podium and announce this and take some questions from our stellar local media.
Chicken manure for releasing a statement.
