I suck at the one word thread... My phone rarely takes me to the right page. I should just start prefacing all my posts with "skip me." Or maybe, "trespassers will be shot on sight." What about "kiss the cook"? Saucy, that one!

I think I'm just gonna' raise a glass to them at the bowling alley later though... We got some work to do, the one word thread is now longer than this thread......... Batter Up!

Ok I got something to discuss,I'm thinking about moving. There's a place about 40 miles (roughly an hour) from my work for sale, it's on a huge piece of property and the home is a decent size. The property we've been renting in the Bunnell area got sold (not to us obviously as I had planned) so we're looking around for another place.
Work is good right now, but I'm not married to my job either. My line of work I could really go anywhere and find work easy enough. This place is priced right (it's a foreclosure) and let's just say I could pay it off in 10 years no problem without ever getting a raise. That's the thought that intrigues me, a little inconvenience now for a long term pay off. No mortgage by the time I'm 38 sounds real nice..........

Not to mention the amount you spend in gas and time commuting, which is time away from family. I'm glad we are only 25 minutes from work now. Just keep that in mind. But ultimately whatever makes you happy, do it. Quote:My wife and I used to live an hour from work on a bunch of acres and she now has almost 300k miles on her truck. But ultimately whatever makes you happy, do it. I'd make the commute for a little while but the eventual goal would be to find work closer. Mileage on a vehicle is ok, being in the automotive industry that stuff doesn't worry me. Almost every car I've own I've driven over 300k Gas is the big thing, and time away. Almost every car I've own I've driven over 300kWe did enjoy our time out in the country. I won't lie. The mileage on the vehicle only bothered us because you very quickly ruin the value of your vehicle with 2.3 even 4 times the mileage your supposed to have on it. Not to mention the added maintenance with increased daily mileage. That was overlooked for the most part. The hour long drive got old fast and the time away from home got old even faster. If you work 8 hrs a day now your away for ten hrs plus 6-8 hrs sleeping plus however long doing misc. responsibilities you find you have little time to really enjoy family. You talk about your wife and children so I know they mean a lot to you and you value your time with them. So, keep that in mind. I'm not trying to talk you in or out of it. Just keep that in kind. I understand the allure of being aware from civilization ( it is REALLY nice and quiet plus the freedom of doing whatever you want on your property). Just weigh it out and see which outweighs the other.
I'm in the country now, that's the only way to live. I guess the temptation is to buy this piece of property and be able to pay it off in 10 years. there's other options "closer" to work but they're a fraction of what we are on now and less then whats for sale further out in the country.
but good advice man, I'm guessing you where in the Hastings area? I see St. Johns on your location.
No, I was actually raised in the St. John's area from my high school years and moved out to Callahan/Hilliard with my gf(now wife) behind her parents house on their property. As we got got ahead and saved a little we ended up buying back down here in St. John's. I don't regret either one. I see both sides. Ideally I would love to find a few acres to live on in our area with a comparable house but, for now we are in a subdivision. Maybe in a few more years we can afford the acreage.
