Yan isn't going to play on the tag

That wouldn't be smart at all to lose almost 40 mil in 2 years.  We could tag him next year as well. I think Yan is smarter than that

This all could have been avoided. Thanks Coughlin.

I follow him on twitter and his tweets have been pretty cryptic. I suspect he's getting some bad advice from his agent or advisers and is going to ask to become the highest paid DE in the league. I don't know if this is what the Jaguars are calling "easy" but I know we're going to eventually want to resign Josh Allen and paying Yan some kind of crazy contract will not help with that situation at all.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Really? That's 4 years away. 3 at the least.

It sets expectations and anyway, what are you saying? You're only going to sign Yan for 3 years?

I'm saying signing Yan will have zero impact on resigning Allen.

The cap will go up. Bloated contracts will go away.

Player salaries absolutely have an impact which is why there's a pretty good chance Dareus doesn't play for us next year even though he's a pretty good player. Beyond that, getting a reputation for paying players anything they ask for is not going to help sign players in the future.

That headline is a bit out of context.

"It's a deal that we feel like could take a little bit of time but should be done hopefully relatively easily," Caldwell added.

When Caldwell says "easily", I think in DC's mind he does not have the handcuffs that were put on from TC. I am not sure that I would take the leap that DC is indicating he is willing to overpay Yan at whatever league leading level he wants.

Pesky little facts  ^

I still think a deal can get done before the March deadline.  They'll just have to either overpay or tag him and jump through all the hoops that brings with it.

Hopefully a mild overpayment and a bunch of incentives gets it done.

I also wouldn't read too far into Yan's tweets. He tweets cryptic and existential stuff nearly every single day.

And neither will not resigning players who absolutely deserve it.

I'm not advocating breaking the bank for Yan but top 5 money is fair. Coughlin dropped the ball on this one.

As far as worrying about Allen in 4 years, there is always a way to sign players. I would much rather have 2 average DTs with two pro bowl level edge rushers.

Sitting out a whole year isn't in his best interests though.

I agree but I'm interested to see if the Le'veon Bell situation has made players look at it differently.

Yes you miss one year but then you get to go elsewhere. Betting on yourself.

Can't wait for the franchise tag to be fired into the sun. Just treat your players right. It shouldn't be that hard.

Players should never have the upper hand. Ever. In any situation.

He already played against all of his best interests in order to secure a long term bag. He isn't going to do that again for the team that caused him to do that, nor will his agent want to

The reality is the Jags can't afford to have another PR disaster and FO failure by having Yannick stay off the field all year because of the tag. They're all performing for their jobs the next two years.

Yannick is getting a big money contract no matter what happens. Whether that's the jags or a team they have to trade him to is irrelevant + Yan and his v well respected agent know all of this

Yikes, I pray that you are never put in a position of power over anyone ever.
