Jags exploring trade for Hayden Hurst
|
I was luke warm on Hurst coming out of the draft, and I'd have to say it hasn't gotten any better...meh.

Former first round pick buried on depth chart that will likely only get them a day 3 pick in return?
They'd be wise to just hold on to him, imo. Andrews or Boyle are an injury away from them needing him. But if we could get him for a 5th or 6th I'd do it in a heartbeat and would adjust draft plans accordingly. (Would not feel the need to draft TE) Hurst, Oliver, and James O is a promising and young TE group. Could add a cheap vet in FA or keep a guy like Koyack around as a 4th. I'd do it for a fifth and use that second or third round pick on a DB or an additional OL instead. Koyack could be upgraded by the right UDFA, and Jacksonville is probably going to be an attractive spot for UDFA tight ends if we really do go into 2020 with some combination of Oliver, Hurst and an O'Shaughnessey type. Koyack isn't a Jaguar in 2020 unless they re-sign him. (doubtful) Right now 2020 TE contracts include: Oliver O'Shaughnessy Swaim Charles Oliver We show less advertisements to registered users. (doubtful) Charles Jones, btw, is a guy that has college experience blocking and receiving from the H-Back position and Jay Gruden employed this with Niles Paul a little bit in DC. May be worth watching in camp for that reason. (02-28-2020, 11:52 AM)NYC4jags Wrote:(02-28-2020, 11:49 AM)NCJag Wrote: It's Charles Jones, not Charles Oliver.Brainfart. Thank you for the fix. I was hoping to see something out of him last year. He's got that intriguing "tweener" size, ala prior Jags TE Zach Miller (shame it took him so long to find a niche, and then break his leg like he did). “Motivation alone is not enough. I'm for exploring getting Hurst. As long as he is healthy. I really dont trust the Jags to draft a comptetent TE in the draft. They would probably try to get a 5th rounder and claim they got a steal, only for him to be buried in the roster and eventually be cut.
Interesting to see what a huge difference in how Baltimore message boards see this trade scenario compared to how most people are looking at it here or on BCC.
Most fans on Ravens boards think of trading him only for a first or a player like Campbell/Linder and a second round pick (from us to them), some even mentioned a package with Ngakoue and our first for Judon and Hurst lol. On Jaguars boards some don't even want to think about trading for him if not for a 7th round pick or something. Both excessively biased lol. Regardless of how fans view compensation (and I didn't want Hurst in the first round 2 years ago when it was rumoured we would draft him if available) pretty much all Ravens fans are pleased with the guy and most of them seem to think he would thrive on another team where he'd be the primary TE. Most of them say his production suffered from being behind Andrews and having Boyle playing so much( because of his elite blocking) but they are pleased with the way he played, his athleticism, hands and potential. They absolutely don't want to get rid of him for cheap and most of them believe in him to be a really good TE in the league. Personally I don't want to give day1-2 draft capital away for him as he already played 2 years on his rookie contract (which could drive his price down) but I am not opposed to see if they can work something out for relatively cheap price (2020+2021 day 3 picks or something, would have been ideal if we didn't throw away the extra 5th rounder for Dobbs) or with a player exchange. His cap would be lower than guys like Swaim was last year and he has the potential to help right away despite his lack of production so far. With the depth of this year draft at some position round 1-4 picks will be valuable to have some potential starters on a rookie contract and would rather keep them.

A 5th would be generous from us. Dude will be 27 years old when the season starts has 500+ yards and 3 TDs in 2 season. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Yan for Hurst and a 2. Maybe throw in a 6th rounder for feels.
