He can play. Don't care if he is gay

#23

I don't care if he fancies fat chicks, if he can help the pass rush.

He probably loves it when he goes up against the opposition tight end

You can tell all the kiddies here, they have all the tiresome jokes for sale
I thought DE's cant win games!

Any OT for a matter of fact. O-line men are very dirty and rough group of individuals and they will most certainly try to get in his head

"it compares alot to the tebow situation where he probably has nfl talent but no team wants the media circus that will come from this, no team wants its star players having to be interviewed about what its like to play with the first gay nfl player

teams also arent gonna want the liability that releasing him can turn into some sort of discrimination type claim"

As long as he gets after the QB's butt. Seriously, kudos to the guy for coming out officially before the combine. I dont care whether a player is white, black, Asian, straight, gay, or bi, as long as they can play I'll root for them and be glad they are on our team.

Want to bet?

LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

I doubt it affects his draft stock.   It's not a character flaw, and has no bearing on the football field.  "Media Circus?"  How many Muslim Players have become media circuses because they're one of the few muslim players in the NFL?

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

To the people who asked, or are going to ask who cares? here is the answer.

All (or the majority of) the Gay, Lesbian, and Bi-sexual athletes who live in fear cares.

This is a major accomplishment for the GLBT Community because its another step towards being comfortable in public with their sexuality without fear of reprisal.

Are there longer days ahead, and will they face continued stigmatization? Yes.

With that said I applaud Sam for making this announcement before the combine, and draft to avoid all distractions, and let all 32 teams be aware up front.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

#33

Smart to come out now, which I think teams will appreciate.

Before the combine interviews, won't be looked at as a factor to readjust his perception from the interviews (rightly, wrongly, just not a, "well, dang, what do we make of this information!) or a "geez, he left us with this distraction and we had no idea we were getting this distraction."

Very responsible, thoughtful, and well considered.

Maybe there can be a new rule that all owners must interview a gay or lesbian candidate to head coaching posts

I really don't care what his sexual orientation is. This is just a stupid story.

Don't bother to post in a thread about it then...

People who usually say this are inherently uncomfortable with their own sexuality...

Not at all, according to Ian Rapoport, Bucky Brooks, and Daniel Jeremiah.

I was going to start this thread if nobody else did. It is good to know other people have already read the story.

No stupider than Derrick Coleman being the first deaf offensive player, Doug Williams being the first black quarterback, etc.

Michael Sam is going to be the first openly gay player in NFL history because so far only former players have come out of the closet.

Through most of the year I thought he'd be a good LEO candidate. He was the sack leader for a couple of weeks early in the season. He had a couple of 3 sack games but would disappear in games too. Plus he only lines up on the left side, I've never seen him rush from the right. He does have a nice highlight vid. If all we went by were his highlights, he'd be a 1st rounder.

As far as media circus, wasn't Manti Teo supposed to bring along his baggage as well. That seemed to have disappeared. I think this will be a non-issue after the first game or so.
