QB with a 1st round pick may be a smart move...

Gabs played in a gimmicky offense and made terrible decisions if his first read wasn't there. His last throw for Mizzou was a pick 6 in his bowl game. The higher the pressure, the worse he played. Herbert also didn't play great in his bowl games. Not as bad as Gabs, but not great.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

DB's and LB's read his eyes and knew where he was going to throw the ball. He did not know how to "look off" opposing players. No Herbert has an issue hitting wide open WRs in stride... which... is just as concerning to me as someone who is afraid of getting hit after getting completely mauled by a terrible OL his first season. Gabbert developed the ghosts, he didn't have them coming out of college iirc. Herbert struggles with touch, deep ball accuracy, fades, and had lots of bats/INTs on balls thrown into the flat. And that was against PAC12 comp, not exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to defenses. Physically he has "all the tools" I just don't think he has "it". Which really ended up being Gabs issues too. Dude had the size, arm strength, etc. Just didn't have the "it".

Sounds a lot like another Jaguars QB that got a big extension, only to be cut the following season. Who could it be........ ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. I'm not in love with any of the QBs in this draft really. Tua is great IF he doesn't get hurt again, and if he does is it a career ender? Herbert was hyped up a lot last off season, so I went and watched him a lot this past season. Stayed up late to watch Oregon a lot. Was highly unimpressed. Love was someone I didn't hear anything about until it came close to bowl season... Admittedly I ONLY watched his bowl game but again was unimpressed. If anything I'm more keen on taking a flyer on a guy like Hurts, if that is, he falls to the 4th round. Otherwise I'm pretty OK with taking on 2020 with Minshew and Dobbs. If we suck, then we suck and we'll be in plenty good position to draft Lawrence or Fields next year (or the next one season surprise QB like Burrow). We need to make sure our OL is good. Our weapons are solid and our D isn't a sieve. That is mission 2020, imo. Build around Minshew, if he falters, so be it. But I'd be pretty steamed if we use draft capital to move up for Tua or Herbert only to have Tua get broken behind an OL that isn't up to snuff or have Herbert show signs of bust as a rookie and be tied to them for 4 seasons without giving Minshew a legit look.
If the jags went Herbert I'd be ecstatic. Hes my favorite QB in this draft.

If we were drafting people based on their 2018 performance then joe burrow would be a 5th rounder. You can't just throw it out because it doesn't suit your opinion. Herbert has serious accuracy concerns that are going to get exposed at the NFL level. He threw for 70% completion rate in his last game against Wisconsin. That doesn't change the fact that he was flat out terrible throwing the football in that game. So Burrow threw for a worse completion rate in 2018 and did nothing at all in college career before last year. Does that mena he isnt worthy of the 1st overall pick? I said you guys arw entitled to your opinion and if you dont like him that's fine. But dont scold me for thinking he a top prospect. Obviously I'm jot alone in that evaluation or he wouldnt be universally talked about as a top half of the first round pick. I see a player with higher upside than any other QB in the draft who has also produced at the college level. I'd welcome him here and think 5 years form now he will be looked at as the best QB in this class.
The only problem with a QB in round 1 is I think Minshew beats them out in camp. If we draft a high round QB it needs to be someone who can beat out Minshew.
Tua is the only 1st round QB I'd be okayish with and only if he fell to #9. He is still a risk, but one worth taking if he falls to 9.

Burrow showed more in 1 season than Herbert showed in his whole College career though, all while playing against far better competition. Like you said, we're all entitled to our opinions and I see a QB in Herbert who's going to be a bust as a top 10 draft pick, if he has to play straight away. Him sitting for a couple years would be the best case scenario for him. (04-23-2020, 04:21 PM)rpr52121 Wrote: Tua is the only 1st round QB I'd be okayish with and only if he fell to #9. I feel he is a guy the team could rally around and I feel he is the only guy who could push Minshew for the starting spot next year not named Joe Barrow. He's also got about an even chance of being a bust. To risky for the Jags right now and the Jags have Minshew.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
