I think the secondary was arguably the best performing position group last season. That coupled with the amount of draft picks we spent there last year leads me to believe we aren't picking any secondary players high unless an absolute stone cold lock steal presents itself.
Any cornor we pick above the 4th has to be our number one cornor for the next 10 years to be worth missing a need in my book
I see qb de dt g c rb fs all as bigger needs than corner considering ball did a very good job last year Adding a pass rush will give our d far more than a corner that being said I would still take Bradley Roby if we traded down in the first and grabbed an extra second We show less advertisements to registered users. SJB is still a project really. He has the size but he isn't that skilled right now. If he really does go in round 2 it will be too early. I agree that I would wait and get whoever out of Breeland, McGill, or Desir falls some.
Also, McCarron in the 3rd is obviously a boneheaded move to me.
Dont get this need at corner I see thrown out there.
It is the least of our concerns. We seem to be pretty deep at CB. Quote:Dont get this need at corner I see thrown out there. I tend to agree with this. I don't see a CB being selected by the Jags until the 6th round - if at all. Alan Ball is under contract for one more year. Gratz has what it takes to be a starter and should be better in year 2. McCray is a very intriguing up-and-comer who could back up either side and may take Ball's place at some point. Caldwell believed in this guy's potential enough to sign him to a deal through 2015. Add in Mike Harris at nickel and the 6'2" second year player, Jeremy Harris who will be healthy for the preseason - and I don't see a huge need. . We show less advertisements to registered users. We can't spend our 2nd pick on a CB. Caldwell is def. a needs picker and he wanted a couple of starters in the first few rounds. Sjb doesn't start week 1 unless there are injuries.
If they take him at pick 39 he better be a sure fire starter (and a darn good one at that) with all the needs this team has over CB right now. I don't have an issue taking a CB but at 39 that is too high.
Quote:...Caldwell believed in this guy's potential enough to sign him to a deal through 2015...Jags picked up Jamell Fleming off waivers from Arizona, and his existing 4 year rookie contract through 2015 came with him in the waiver acquisition process. I am not aware that Caldwell has signed him to a new deal. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Former third round pick, so maybe he can at least be quality depth. Quote:Dont get this need at corner I see thrown out there. from my perspective i think we have our #2 cb for the next 10 years in gratz and we also have our strong safety in cyp, thats two of 5 from what i saw and it's a fleeting perspective i don't think gratz has quite enough to be a shut down cornor . He doesn't have the size and strength of a richard sherman or the speed of a patrick peterson or champ bailey he is young and talented and maybe I am completely missing his potential but I see him as the guy that can do well against the number 2 receiver but in my head cb is still an eventual need. if we go into the next year exactly the same i'll be pretty happy i think alan ball can do a solid job as can will blackmon or mike harris at nickel and i hope to see demetrius mccray/jeremy harris is challenging for more than a special teams role next year but if we are sitting in round 2 (preferably having traded back and got mack at olb and another second into the bargain) and someone with a great chance of being a shut down cornor (in my head it's roby but i can understand why thats flawed) turns up i think you have to take him. It's low down on my list of priorities but in my head it is still an eventual need
It's funny how Jean-Baptiste has moved up mock drafts just because he's tall. I doubt the OP has even seen him play.
Plenty of good corners who will fall in the draft. Dont get sucked into thr SJB hype just because he is the Sam size as Sherman and once played WR like him. Just because it has fur and purrs doesnt mean it's a house cat. Our secondary will be a lot better than it was last year if A.) We upgrade our dline/pass rush and B.) Our guys grow after a season of playing

I think he's there in the 3rd and possibly the 4th.
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
Sherman and browner size sure helped this kid! Lol I watched film on him and all he has is that great size. His technique is average at best wouldn't touch him till late 3rd-4th
I like his motor, and he moves smooth for a big guy. Other than that we can wait for McGill in the 4th and get the same thing. A tall CB who needs work on coverage but has physical potential.
Watching both of their Draft Breakdowns i see the same from both of them(SJB and McGill) .Trouble tackling when receivers/backs are in front of them and lack of closing ability when the receiver gets a step on the deep route. Both allow too much seperation on short routes allowing the WRs to outshake them at the line despite their size when trying to jam. |
