Why do people HAVE to accept gays? That's my question.

 

I don't know that you do have to accept them.   I choose to accept them, because the ones I know are nice friendly people, and I enjoy their company.   They're a very diverse group.   Most of them are not defined by their gayness, it's just part of who they are.

That was my question. I support their right to be married, and not be dicriminated against. But, I almost feel like I am being forced to accept their lifestyle. You cannot even tell a homosexual that they are not 'normal' without significant backlash. I do not feel like homosexuality is 'normal' and if it were would that make heterosexuality 'abnormal'? Walking around Lenox mall in the ATL, where there is a certain flamboyance, I have to explain to a 5 year why a grown man looks, dresses and acts like a woman; kisses another man and holds his hand (yes I know this does not typify all gays). How do I even explain this? I grew up with the belief that one should love thy neighbor but that doesn't mean I need to accept what they do.


Anyway everything I have read and saw indicates Sams' homosexuality is drawing more attention than his actual talent. He is a mediocre player at best.

Most homosexual people manage to be as discreet as any straight couple in their public behavior and their relationship, not accepting what you describe does not make anyone homophobic.

When you tell someone they are not normal you should expect some sort of negative reaction, especially when there is a long history of persecution.  

 

As for homosexuality not being "normal," you are correct in a way.  It is not "normal" in the sense that red hair is not normal, or dwarfism or left handedness is not normal. 

 

And as for what you tell your 5 year old, why not tell him the truth?   How would that hurt him? 

 

And as far as "accepting what they do," you don't have to accept it as far as I'm concerned.  This is a free country and you have a right to believe in whatever you want to believe in.   You can believe in bigfoot or space aliens.   It is legal under the constitution to be a Nazi or a Communist.   Your beliefs are your own affair.

Straight people can stare at you. Gay/lesbian people can ignore you. If a gay man stares at you, he most likely is not doing so for romantic reasons.
