My guess is one major reasoning for the front office housecleaning in Cleveland was their failure to land what owner Jimmy Haslem considered a top Head Coach candidate.  Last year,  it was their failure to land Chip Kelly.  This year,  it was their failure to land Adam Gase,  Josh McDaniels,  and Ken Whisenhunt.   Haslem likely lost confidence in the abilities of Mike Lombardi and Joe Banner to sell the Cleveland Browns as an attractive destination for coaches and potential FA's.

I could never understand what the Browns understanding was in bringing back Lombardi. IMO if felt like a sympathy rehire.

 

I read on their MB that the reason he was fired was because he and Banner would not bring in Schiano who was a favorite of the owner.

 

Now they want Manning to be a part of their FO.
