Conley crippled the offense. Might have been able to make this a shootout without those costly mistakes.
No strength on the interior DL, no pass rush, and a secondary that can't play zone or man.

It completely baffled my mind why he was playing over Westbrook. Chark is our downfield threat and with him out, Westbrook is clearly the second best guy on the roster to fill this particular role. It should've been Westbrook, Cole and Shenault out there for most of the game.I agree man. Why did they leave him out there? What a bum. He personally killed at LEAST 3 drives without a doubt. He dropped a roughly 30 yard gain that hit him straight in the chest too. Before that he definitely dropped another first down catch where he actually had it for a second then looked up for defenders before having it secured and dropped it. Then he had the OPI, which TBH I thought was a baloney call. He got pressed, slapped the guys arm away by getting him on the upper arm/shoulder area and he fell over. That's not really Conleys fault but it still killed the drive. Guy was aggrevating as hell to watch last night though. The INT was his fault too. It was a back shoulder throw and he just kept running. Didn't even try to make the DB drop the ball nor even fought for it really. I don't remember him having the drops that bad ever before but either way Westbrook is clearly the more talented WR so why isn't he out there instead? Maybe they'll make an adjustment to the wr lineup after that horrific display. We can only hope. One thing is absolutely clear now. Chark is the key to the WR core. There's no way he would've dropped any of those balls Conley dropped, which would've kept drives going and possibly even stopped them from blitzing so often. Chark also gets open better than Conley and I'm sure that would've made a huge difference in the game flow as well. Caldwell needs to lock Chark up with a contract soon, that much is clear.
The entire defense played horribly. It has been bad all 3 games due to a combination of lack of talent, youth/inexperience and bad coaching. What else should we have expected after letting Calais, Dareus, Bouye and Yann go? I'm not saying these moves will turn out to be bad in the long run. The current defense has many new starters who had a very short pre-season to come together so to expect much better is not realistic. They somehow beat the Colts, but that was without forcing even one punt. The best case scenerio is that Henderson, Chaisson and Hamilton gain the necessary experience this season and prove that they can be important parts of the foundation moving forward. The secondary will need to be upgraded next season by adding a free agent or high draft pick at free safety and possibly cornerback. Adding another pass rusher should also be a priority. Fortunately, they have enough cap space and several high draft picks to make this happen.

Overall Conley was probably the worst player in the game, but the effort level left a lot to be desired.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023. |
