Ted Wells report released
|
The news we have been waiting forever for has finally arrived. Everything you ever wanted to know about the bullying scandal in Miami is in these links.
News about the release of the report: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...uct-report Summary of the 144-page report: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...i-dolphins It looks obvious to me the Dolphins have a closeted gay player. I am guessing that would be the anonymous one because until now nobody talked about the homophobic harrassment. That is going to be a huge talking point leading up to the draft. You might be surprised how bad it was down there. Edit: To read the full report, you have to look for a link on NFL.com because a moderator was not happy I posted it here. Men sometimes use homophobic slurs towards other men to insult their manhood - whether they are actually gay or not. That may have been the case here.
It looks obvious to me the Dolphins have a closeted gay player. This is not the first time I've heard this about Jonathan Martin including time at Stanford. I believe this is another reason Michael Sam should have kept it to himself. This is gonna draw to much negative attition towards the Nfl locker room.

That may have been the case here. Even if it is, the homophobic slurs were wrong and should not have been said. One thing I do know is this story goes way beyond what people were talking about because until now everyone thought it was just about 68 and 71. We show less advertisements to registered users. If this report had been released a month earlier, I bet Joe Philbin and Jim Turner would have been fired ASAP. Now with the NFL Scouting Combine next week, it is too late because they must talk to a lot of draft prospects, first in Indianapolis and later at colleges, then tell general managers who/what they want. So the Dolphins can't do what they should do because of bad timing. That shows us the bullying was so severe Ted Wells could not finish his report in time for the appropriate consequences to occur. Who would have guessed it could take this long to know everything that happened?
Quote:Even if it is, the homophobic slurs were wrong and should not have been said. Yeah Mike Pouncey looking really bad. Him being part of Aaron Hernandez defense team.Him and twin brother Maurkice wearing free Hernandez hats and now this. The sad thing is he was considerd a great leader both on and off the field at Florida but he just making some terrible decisions.
Quote:These guys should get a grip. If someone is gay so be it, what does it matter? What should it matter who they want to be with? They're getting paid enough to grow up a little bit.

There is something about the next level that makes players think they can get away with more crap in the NFL than they did in college, I guess. When they were at Florida, I liked the Pounceys. I think after reading the report every coach, trainer, and player will know what is not acceptable locker room behavior if his team picks Michael Sam and be held accountable if he is harrassed for being gay.
To me, there is a point past which it can no longer be a defense to say it's guys being guys, locker rooms are tough places for tough men. I think the Dolphins locker room went past that point.
There is some bad stuff in that report.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

Warning: There's some vulgar language in the report. I'm not sure how you make the connection between slurs and a potentially closeted gay player. That's typical banter between a group of guys regardless of their sexual preference. So, no, it won't be a huge talking point leading up to the draft. In reading through the report, what I see is a couple of bullies recognizing they had a teammate who was susceptible, and an easy target who didn't fight back. These idiots, in their testosterone charged environment, simply pushed things well beyond acceptable boundaries. What amazes me is how the coaching staff supposedly knew nothing about this. I find that hard to believe, and feel that Philbin and his staff should be held accountable for not having a handle on what was going on with their locker room. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

So, no, it won't be a huge talking point leading up to the draft. The report specifically mentions insults about an unnamed player's sexuality and sexual harrassment (both verbal and physical). Explain how this crap is guys being guys and does not indicate the unnamed player is gay. I think if that was not the case, he would have allowed Ted Wells to put his name in the report. Player A frequently was subjected to homophobic name-calling and improper physical touching. Offensive line coach Jim Turner at least once participated in taunting the unnamed Dolphins offensive lineman. The lineman was consistently taunted with homophobic insults. Turner purchased a male blow up doll for the lineman. The news article has this to say about it: The report also found that Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner was aware of a running joke regarding the sexuality of the anonymous offensive lineman and, on at least one occasion, participated in taunting. It was not two bullies and one victim. It was four bullies and three victims. If I was Roger Goodell, I would suspend anybody the Dolphins don't cut or fire who was named a bully in the report and take away Miami's first round draft pick. If Jonathan Martin wasn't complicit in all the vulgar talk and whatnot, I'd absolutely agree. However, I read through all the texts and Martin seemed to give it as much as take it in those. If he never told anyone that it was bothering them, how were they supposed to know? That's the biggest problem I have with it all.
Quote:To me, there is a point past which it can no longer be a defense to say it's guys being guys, locker rooms are tough places for tough men. I think the Dolphins locker room went past that point. Obviously. We knew it was bad, but not this bad. I will never understand why anybody would think this is just guys being guys. If that was true, there would be no issue and nobody would know about it.

Joe Philbin is Jim Turner's supervisor, so part of his job is knowing everything Turner does with the offensive linemen. He asked Turner about this and Turner lied to him.
There's stuff at my work place and pass work place that was said and we did that we wouldn't do in front of wife, women or children. I worked at a trash company. We found sex toys sometimes and would joke around with co-workers including some lesbians. They didn't care and it was what it was.

Totally different enviornment. Quote:You can't compare your own jobs with NFL locker rooms. Totally different enviornment. And that excuse has just about run its course.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:And that excuse has just about run its course. It will definitely take some time for real changes to occur, but when they do, NFL locker rooms will be more like normal workplaces. |
