Don't Get Your Hopes Up
|
Guys, please don't get your hopes up high on these top 3 quarterback. If Jadeveon Clowney is available at 3, the Jaguars are going to pick him. At the fan forum Dave stated that he told Shad Khan who he thought was the best player in the draft. Dave then gave us a nugget; He said we are going to see if "he the best player" falls to us. Everyone has Jadeveon Clowney as their number 1 player in this draft, so I assume he is going to be our pick.
I actually think Teddy Bridgewater is going to be a stud. The only bad thing I heard anyone say about Teddy is his weight. He has good pocket presences, good footwork, throw receiver open, read defenses, know how to fool the safeties with his eyes, played his best football against best competition, played hurt....what else do you want? Its funny because Johnny Manziel is just as small but no one talk about his size as much. When anyone mention Johnny Football they always talk about his unorthodox playing style, but he is shorter than Bridgewater and he maybe a couple of pounds bigger. All you hear about Johnny is that he is exciting....well Tim Tebow was exciting, so was Vince Young, exciting don't win NFL football games. I really don't want to pass on a good quarterback. However, I guess it wont be so bad if we are in this same spot next year and get to choose between Hundley, Mariota, and maybe Winston. I think they are going to fix the defense in this draft and the Offensive line in Free Agency. 1. Jadeveon Clowney 2. Kyle Van Noy 3. Donte Moncrief 4a. Carlos Hyde 4b. DaQuan Jones 5a. Daniel McCullers 5b. AJ McCarien 5c. Brent Urban 6. Dede Lattimore 7. Aaron Colvin We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I will get my hopes up until I have a reason not to. Shad Khan said there is "no mystery" we will pick a quarterback - maybe even two. David Caldwell has said nothing to the contrary. We all know what they want to do: replace Blaine Gabbert with someone who will be very good in his first season and keep Chad Henne as a backup.
How do you put Carlos Hyde in the fourth round? Mike Mayock said he will be gone in the second. From NFL.com:
Quote:Speaking of running backs, Mayock is impressed with Ohio State's Carlos Hyde, although not impressed enough to project him for the first round, as NFL Media analyst Charles Davis did in hislatest mock draft. "I love his feet. For a 235 pound guy, he's got great feet. Pass protection, I think he needs to get a little bit better," Mayock said. "He can be a three-down back. He's got everything you're looking for. I think he probably goes in the second round. He cuts well, has good balance. Has good ability to make you miss in the hole."
I honestly don't think we will be in the same draft position next year. Especially if we get Clowney and he plays like everyone knows/hopes he can. I feel as if we will play better all year with most of the players already familiar with the system.
That will put us out of the chance to get a top qb next year in my opinion.
In order to rebuild, you have to destroy.

the reality of the situation is, even though you might not see "your guy" get drafted. at 3, the jaguars are going to get a great player that everyone should wind up being happy with.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Waiting until the 5th round for a QB would be a huge mistake IMO. We really want someone that can overtake Henne game 1, not someone that's going to cook on the bench and maybe be a starter one day.

"if the best players falls to us". Clowney is clearly the most physically gifted player in this draft and has the production to go with it. If he is there when we pick, I'd be stunned if he isnt our guy. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. But I think Clowney will be gone. I'd still put money on him being the first pick when it's all said and done.

If Clowney is 'obviously the top guy on everyone's draft board' then... how is he going to fall to 3?
Honestly, I wouldn't get my hopes up about Clowney. Even if the Rams don't want/need him, another team could trade up to grab him.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:If Clowney is 'obviously the top guy on everyone's draft board' then... how is he going to fall to 3? Well he may not be the top guy on every single board... including the two in front of us. but regardless, QBs make teams do crazy things. and all we need is two QBs to go above us. I wouldnt bet money on Clowney being there at 3 but it could happen. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.
Of all the scenarios I feel are feasible there are alot of scenarios where I'm happy some where I'm content and some where I'm excited but worried
I can't predict a likely scenario which I'm unhappy with Every player we pick looks likely to give us an upgrade somewhere Teddy or Clowney at 3 happy Trade back and get Mack Barr or bortles at 6 or 8 happy Bortles Mack or Barr at 3 content Manziel at 3 excited but worried We show less advertisements to registered users. I want Maurice back!!! Quote:I honestly don't think we will be in the same draft position next year. Especially if we get Clowney and he plays like everyone knows/hopes he can. I feel as if we will play better all year with most of the players already familiar with the system. If Blaine or Chad is our quarterback, we will be picking in the top 10 again. Our best bet is to hope Blackmon get his act together and they allow him to play at the beginning of the season because we have no play makers on offense. Shorts is so over-rated to me!!! That is why I am okay with getting Watkins at 3 if Clowney or Bridewater are gone.
Oh, my hopes are up baby! They are up!
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:Well he may not be the top guy on every single board... including the two in front of us. They don't have to both be quarterbacks. Sammy Watkins has been mocked as the #2 pick.

Here is an interesting comment: "I'd rather get backlash from (not picking a quarterback) than backlash from picking the wrong guy," Caldwell told CBS Sports' Pete Prisco.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...t-backlash Increasingly he sounds like a guy who will pick Jadeveon Clowney instead of a quarterback at #3. Of course, we all know that means very little before the combine.
Quote:Here is an interesting comment: "I'd rather get backlash from (not picking a quarterback) than backlash from picking the wrong guy," Caldwell told CBS Sports' Pete Prisco. Yes, that sounds like someone who has "one quarterback in mind at three" and if he is not there choosing someone else. I agree with you Dave....don't reach! Defense win championships anyway, so lets build this defense.
