A strength and conditioning coach that protects the field from drunken idiots by clothes lining them......... nice. I like that hire. That guy has fire in his belly! He looks like he knows how to get guys fired up!

Then it must be really funny to you that I hate the Gators and always have.

Urban is just a legit piece of [BLEEP].

I'm an Alabama fan and I would feel just as pissed off if they hired Nick Saban.

There's the NFL and there's college. Two separate entities. Success in college doesn't mean crap in the NFL.

Might as well hire Dabo Swinney since he made Urban his [BLEEP] every time they played.

But that would be the logical conclusion of an Alabama fan since Nick Saban failed in the NFL.
So there's quite a bit of bias in that thinking.

I mean he went 15-17 in the NFL... so Nick was vastly more successful than every coach we've ever had with the exception of Coughlin. lol

Regardless of that.. you can tell who is a College only guy and both Urban and Nick are the poster boys for it.

It's just such a bad, stupid, stupid STUPID decision to give every single key to a college-only guy.

There are legit reasons to question if Meyer was really the best choice. But none of that accounts for the vitriol you Gator fans are expressing.

LMAO.

Is that all you got? Seriously? I'm a closet Gator fan?

For real? lol

That's just sad. Urban sucks. He's a piece of [BLEEP] human being that doesn't deserve the accolades he's received for being a piece of [BLEEP] that allows human garbage on his team if it means a W... then running away when the authorities are on to him.

I sincerely apologize that my (and others) hatred of Urban goes beyond his being the coach of UF. I don't give a crap about that, my team made Tebow cry and made Urban quit the first time. I'm all good on that front lol.. and that's all it took for that weak piece of [BLEEP] to quit.. a loss.

Yep your hatred gave you away. Some people think he's a bad choice and there are definitely reasons for that but when it gets personal, as it has in your case, there's clearly something else at play. So either you're a bitter Gator fan or Meyer stole your girlfriend. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming the former.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Yikes. Relax.

What’s worst case scenario? The Jags continue being bad like they have been for the last 10-20 years?

Urban is super calculated in his coaching choices. He basically takes jobs he knows he can win with. He turned down a cake job in broadcasting to take this one. He may be just a college guy but maybe not. We won’t know for a while but let’s at least see who he hires as coordinators (Raheem Morris would be really good) before we throw a tantrum.

I was excited to get Trevor Lawrence. Totally crushed by hiring Urban Meyer... who's never had a real QB because he's never even tried to recruit one because he's never needed a real one to win. His system has always been one read then RUN RUN and RUN some more.

I think Urban Meyer will destroy Trevor. He's going to ruin a generational player.

That's my fear and I hate that Shad Khan gave this guy the keys to the castle.

Those guys that get “destroyed” by a coach, weren’t gonna be any good anyway

Hey be happy with this garbage hire - it's your right.

And we will continue to be a laughing stock.. but worse.. cause everyone sees the failure coming.

I just don't get the optimism hiring a guy who QUIT (and lied, calling it health issues or family comes first lol) when the times got hard.

He was happy as a pig in crap until Nick Saban got hired at Alabama... got beat in the SEC Championship and then the next season (after losing his OC, Mullen) lost a bunch to a bunch of loser teams and QUIT. Just plain quit. And then did the same exact thing to OSU. Without perfect pieces in place he can't win... and once those pieces leave he quits - cause he knows he sucks and can't compete.

It's not really optimism. Meyer was definitely not my ideal hire, but he is here and we're trying to make the best of it. Many of us are still riding a wave of optimism that we are definitely getting a franchise caliber QB in Trevor Lawrence, so we're trying to stay positive. I'm willing to give this thing a chance and see what happens. It can't be any worse than the season we just had. I'm aiming for a 6-10 record in 2021. Anything like that would show a definite improvement and the arrow would be pointing up. I'm not gonna expect miracles in the first year. I just wanna see that we're moving in the right direction.

Gator fans can't get over the best coach in their history was Urban and they were so gullible that they believed Muschamp that it was Urban's fault that he couldn't continue the winning ways. The problem with these angry Gator fans is they don't know football very well.... they had one of the best coaches of all time and their too thick to realize

So what’s the other option here?

Everyone be angry on the message board about the hire?

I was extremely pessimistic about the 2020 season but that was after seeing all the pieces in place. You’re getting angry and the Jags don’t have a GM, OC, DC, rookies or new free agents.

Take a breather.

Now, now, now be fair.  he won a national championship and then QUIT.  Seems a fair trade for a program that has won nothing.

I never once said I was happy with the hire.  In fact, just the opposite.  But you're just over the top, out of control, ridiculous.  But carry on, it's entertaining.

Earlier in this thread, or perhaps another one, a few people took offense to my criticizing "bumpkins". I present you the example I was referring too!

The outbursts we've just witnessed are an example of a bumpkin...a country, small-time, bumpkin!

These are the people who hold this team, and this city back folks!!! They want the team ran like a HS team, and the city like a town with a population of 500.

They're the reason why the city Jacksonville is a laughing stock nationally, and why people don't think Jacksonville has a big enough mentality to have an NFL team.

What Khan and Urban are about to do, is make BIG BOY moves. And I'm sorry but a large portion of the population here...are bumpkins.

They don't understand WHAT comes with stepping into the big leagues. That you may have scum on your team. Matter fact, you will have scum on your team. But does that team WIN is all that matters.
