Bill Polian on Johnny Manziel
|
Quote:The idea he is not comfortable in the pocket comes from video evidence. Pictures speak louder than words, especially motion pictures. Remember this is the sane guy who said he will measure exactly six feet and was a quarter inch short of that. His private workout on March 27 will tell us how comfortable he is in the pocket if we don't know yet.Your height can very up to an inch through out the day, when he just wakes up he may be 6'1.
A lot of people talk about Manziel’s arm strength negatively, but I don’t see why. He has a very strong arm. From what I’ve seen, in terms of pure arm strength, I’d put him second above Bridgewater
and behind Mariota. He is able to throw the ball for chunks of yardage at a time through the air, and honestly he could probably throw it a whole lot further if he put his weight behind it (he has footwork issues which I’ll address later). One thing I was also pleasantly surprised with was his touch. He knows how to control the arc of the ball pretty well, but it’s not fantastic. I would also put him second in this category, with Mariota at third (Bridgewater is far and away the best touch passer in the country.) Anyway, I digress. He is also, as you can see from the statistics, very accurate. 80% accuracy against the best team in the country isn’t normal. It’s very good. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:I'm only thirteen and people are making stuff up to hurt Manziel!Explains your flawed analysis Quote:I'm not trolling and he doesn't feel more comfortable outside the pocket, he said so himself. I have seen him make incredible deep throws in the pocket I don't believe Bridgewater is capable of, please don't ignore me, Wiseman is the one trolling. If you actually do believe this, I will confidently call you clueless. LOL.He may not be the most accurate passer in of the top prospects but he's not far off. His completion percentage is identical to Bridgewater's ya' know? http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/play...iel-1.html http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/play...ter-1.html There's lots to question about his game and whether he'll be able to adapt to passing from the pocket more - but the ball goes where he intends it to go most of the time.

It is a big risk, we know this, but the upside is just so large. Manziel did come off well in the press con, though I did not like his answer regarding his "weaknesss", where he didn't really discuss a "real" weakness (which he has several of). Its a contrast to what Gus said (which is he wants guys who are confident, but also humble enough to understand their weakness). Could be just a press con thing and maybe Jonny will give a more honest answer behind closed doors, but that was one of the few things he said he didn't like. Still...too high risk of a guy for me to take at #3.
I think smokescreen has got to be one of the most overused terms on this board this time of year. Just because a team or an individual say they like somebody or compliment a player, it doesn't mean they want to draft them. Hell, half the time (if not more) it's in response to a direct question about that player.

I noticed Manziel mentioned Jacksonville and Houston in his presser...Maybe thinks those are his most likely destinations?
