Matt Miller 2 round mock
|
I'd love this draft, and if the draft fell this way this is exactly the way I would attack the first 2 rounds and would be a great start to a great draft

We've hired a bunch of free agent defensive linemen. I would tend toward offensive line in that situation. I like the other picks, though.

You can't have to many dlinman and nobody we have on our dline has the potemtial/upside as Barmore. If you feel Barmore is going to be the best player that's left you don't pass him up because we signed Alu, Brown, and Harris. As much as I loved the dline signings, we didn't go out and get Aaron Donald and Leonard Williams. It's the dline, it's not like it's a QB or RB where only 1 will be on the field. We need a influx of dlineman and if the player at the top of our board is a dlineman we should take said player.

I just don't think I would take ANOTHER defensive tackle with my 25th pick when we have other needs, and when we just hired 2 starting DTs, in addition to the ones we already have. I do feel that our offensive line is either getting old, or are at the end of their contracts, so it would behoove us to get a guy even if he doesn't start this year. I also have a good deal of sympathy for the argument that we need to help our new QB succeed, beyond just getting him a defense. We show less advertisements to registered users. I really believe the 1st 5 Jaguars picks will all be needs based. The only exception would be if a receiver like Devonta Smith or Waddle unexpectedly dropped to pick 25. Since this is extremely unlikely to happen, the picks will be as follows:
Need 1: Receiving tight end- Freirmuth will be the guy, but not until pick 33. Need 1b: Left tackle- This is difficult to predict. Assuming Sewell and Darrisaw are gone, there's a good chance they address left tackle at 25 with one of Cosmi, Eichenberg, Mayfield or Jenkins. Slater is more of a guard. Need 3: Edge rusher- Other than Allen and Chaisson, I'm not sure who they trust to come off the edge from the 3-4. Chaisson still needs to improve significantly, but even if he does they need another guy. As is the case with left tackle, there are several options here. Rousseau, Ojulari, Owusu-Koramoah, Phillips, Collins and Ossai. I'd expect one of these 6 to be selected either with pick 25 or 46. Need 4: Free safety- Moehrig is the best of this group. If they really LOVE him, he could even go as high as pick 25. Personally, I'd rather take the left tackle or edge ahead of Moehrig, so they address this position at the top of round 3. There will be value with Grant, Cisco and Holland as possibilities. My pick would be Elijah Molden. He reminds me of Winfield from the Vikings. Undersized, but instincts are top notch. I'd trust him at nickel corner or safety. The ideal draft would have Rousseau fall to pick 25 with the Jaguars taking him. Unfortunately, this won't likely happen so my expectation is for the top 5 picks to look like this: 1 (1) Trevor Lawrence 1 (25) Samuel Cosmi 2 (33) Pat Freirmuth 2 (46) Joseph Ossai 3 (65) Elijah Molden The remainder of the draft will add a pass receiving back, more depth on the offensive line and possibly another tight end. It also wouldn't shock me if Meyer can't resist passing on a weapon like Kadarius Toney or Rondale Moore if either falls to round 2. These would be "sexy" picks, but I think the receiving group is good enough with Chark, Viska, Jones and Johnson so I'd priortize a tight end over this.

He said the wants to find the best player go for value, that is not needs drafting. He could be lying i guess and we could have another Caldwell but I hope not. Not to mention the way they did FA set us up to go pure BAP. Also on the Rosseau pick, I think he is a great player but did you ever once see him standing up rushing form the OLB spot. Every time I seen him he had his hand in the dirt rushing from the end position or even moving inside. He looks like a 4-3 end to me and all the moves we have made looks like we are going to a 3-4, we need to quit drafting guys that dont fit what we want to do on defense (03-21-2021, 02:09 PM)The Real Marty Wrote:(03-21-2021, 12:14 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: What tackle would you take there at 25 that you feel is better or will be better than Barmore Balmore would most likely start at 3-4 end day one and if they dont feel he is good enough to do that he wouldnt be at the top of our board at pick 25.

If we picked Barmore, he would likely have to sit on the bench. I take Eichenberg at #25. He is my #4 OT in a loaded class and a top #25 overall player imo. Taking Barmore now, would be the equivalent of the Chiefs taking a QB in round 1. Since this is extremely unlikely to happen, the picks will be as follows: You are likely correct about Rousseau. Before the Jags took him, they need to believe strongly that he could transition to the 3-4. I shouldn't have assumed that he would effectively make this transition. I don't believe anything that coaches and general managers say prior to the draft. It does them no good to be completely transparent. Baalke and Meyer have likely already adjusted their BIG BOARD to reflect the team's inability to sign a top tight end in free agency. The same goes for the offensive tackle position. The Jaguars may believe that Zack Wilson will end up being a top 5 player from this draft, but would they take him at pick 25 after drafting Lawrence? Of course, he'll be long gone by then but you get my point. I'd be shocked if a tight end and offensive tackle aren't taken by the end of round 2. I know your thoughts about Cam Robinson and Taylor. Despite Meyer's positive comments about Cam Robinson, he is not blind and must have seen enough tape to know that he needs to improve significantly to remain a Jaguar after this season. The Jaguars are fortunate that the offensive tackle class is deep this year and they should be able to find someone in rounds 1 (25) or 2 who provides good value in addition to meeting a need. Unfortunately, the tight end class is not as deep and that's why I believe they need to take Freirmuth at pick 33. This would not be a reach, in my opinion, as I watched every Penn State game which he played in. He doesn't have the athleticism of a Kelsey, but would end up catching at least 70 passes a year with several touchdowns with Lawrence as his quarterback. He doesn't drop the ball and is great making contested catches- especially in the end zone. There is a huge drop-off at this position after Freirmuth and that's why it wouldn't shock me if they strongly consider taking him at 25. Why would they risk taking Brevin Jordan after getting nothing out of Josh Oliver for 2 years due to injuries? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

We already have 5-7 good DE/DT's competing for for 3 starting positions. The slots are full. Drafting Barmore would be a waste, because he'd most likely be sitting on the bench. You can only have so many players at one position on a roster. We spent most of our resources upgrading this exact position and now it's a position of great strength as a rotation.
