My whole problem with Clowney
|
Quote:didnt jared allen do like 13 reps or something like that? Too bad more people didn't ask him about hunting wild boars with his bare hands (knife) during the interview process. He might and should have been drafted before the 4th round. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Clowney has proven he's at least coachable so I doubt you'll see the same attitude in the pros.
THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.
RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. Quote:It shows he does not take his craft seriously. He gets by with what he can, does not spend the time to get better. How many times is he gonna bench press during games?
I kinda like the story line if Houston takes Clowney and we take Manziel, if it were to play out that way. Assuming, as he presumes, we took him at 3.
Only a chump boos the home team!

At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening. Quote:On what planet do you live? I have long arms and legs and I can tell you that you are wrong in this analogy! Because this crap gets brought up every single year. A lot of offensive tackles don't put up good numbers on bench because they have long arms. Long arms does effect bench press.
Someone just mentioned Greg Hardy and Clowney and that makes perfect sense..Hardy graduated from Ole Miss and had a terrific junior year. He was hyped up like crazy and then his work ethic went WAAAAYY down. I was a student at the same time Hardy was at Ole Miss and even met him once or twice and yes, senior year he completely checked out mentally. Now look at him. Clowney's work ethic is college may be questionable but it will be amazing in the pros. Clonwey has was more physical gifts than Hardy also, so dont take Sapp's word and 22 bench press reps too seriously. Clowney will be a pro bowler and might win DROTY

I for the life of me can not figure out why one person that keeps saying he is the obvious choice seems to have ZERO concern about his work ethic this past year. To me that screams concern. How you can not have watched his play from this past year and NOT be concerned about his taking plays off has me puzzled. You and I are usually on the same page about just about everything so I am truly at a loss as to why you seem to display no worries about this past year?????????

He's the only defensive player that I can recall in recent memory that was doubled and tripled teamed nearly every snap. And he played every defensive snap in most of all the games he played... Being winded and just totally giving up aren't the same things.

kharnn, I urge you to watch tape of Mack. I've seen both him and Clowney, and he was targeted just as much as #7.

I'd take Mack over Clowney, personally.
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I like Mack a lot. Mack was the ONLY player on that defense and his presence was indeed felt. He's versatile enough to play that OLB/LEO Bruce Irvin role and would be a welcome addition if we take him in the first. But I also have to consider the level of competition he played against. The MAC talent is nowhere near the talent Clowney faced off against week in and out in the SEC and that's not debatable.

Oh yeah, the competition Clowney faced is absolutely better than the MAC, no question.
I guess for me (and I understand the opposing viewpoint), if I have to choose between a guy who I know will play every down relentlessly and play between at a possibly All-Pro level, and a guy who has out-of this world talent but questionable work ethic, I'm taking the first guy. It's like this. If you could have a triple every hit, vs a home run one time and a strike out the next, who would you take? I would take the first guy because if a transcendent talent is to be the foundation of a defense, he needs to be consistent first.

Maybe Mack ends up being the #1 overall pick after all? Would fit perfectly in their 3-4 defense as well.
I like a lot about Mack, I'm just not sure whether he has the athletic ability to be a dominant player. And I'm really just asking, because I admit I haven't seen much of him. Does he have good speed? Explosiveness? Etc... What was his official time today?
