The Pittsburg Steelers safety Ryan Clark: The Jags needs a qb because we can't sell tickets
|
Quote:First off, you introduced the fan passion into this discussion in the post to which I first responded. I'd think it's quite relevant. The person (who may not even be a casual fan) who received free tickets should be able to seek out someone who is willing to go to the football game who otherwise couldn't afford to attend. If they didnt show a lack of going, dont accept the tickets in the first place. This community needs to be held more accountable if we want to impress Khan on the viability of Professional football in Jacksonville. Fans cant throw a sissy fit and stop going to games because the Jags have had losing seasons the last 3-4 years. If we want to build a strong football tradition we need to be consistent in our commitment and not show passion during just the winning, but also the losing. Look at Cleveland, Detroit, etc, those cities have had losing seasons in the last 5-10 years with a crappy local economy they show up to games and dont make excuses.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

It doesn't mean it is better, it just means that you need to weigh all of the variables like price and other items that they are offering. Your narrow assessment of 1 stat illustrates a very limited perspective and knowledge of economics.

Various economic factors like supply and demand simply don't apply to Jacksonville, but are adequate to explain away towns that under perform Jacksonville? Got it. Of course, none of the talking heads are required to give any complex economic arguments, just guys on message boards...right? BTW, your McDonald's/Outback analogy proves my point. People are willing to spend more for a superior product. Would you be inclined to spend Outback/Ruth's Chris prices for McDonald's quality food? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:BTW, your McDonald's/Outback analogy proves my point. People are willing to spend more for a superior product. Would you be inclined to spend Outback/Ruth's Chris prices for McDonald's quality food? Wow ... not sure how you derived at the above statement but in my new kind ways of 2014, I'll refrain from making any derogatory comments. The analogy illustrates that the demand for one product suffers when other quality products are offered (e.g. Penguins & Pirates). People are more likely to buy a higher quantity of items of lesser quality if they can get it at a much cheaper price (Jags tickets)
I call the Jags ticket office and request 2 tickets .....
* I pay $600 total (based on a 10 game home schedule for comparison purposes) * I get 2 jungle t-shirts * I get 2 sets of teal deal books I call the Steelers ticket office and request 2 of their cheapest season tickets. * I pay $1,500 for the tickets * I pay $4,500 for the 2 seat licenses * I don't even get a dang t-shirt * Hey man, where are my damn coupons !!! Quote:Wow ... not sure how you derived at the above statement but in my new kind ways of 2014, I'll refrain from making any derogatory comments. So more likely, not guaranteed...right? Just because an inferior product is sold at a lower price does not mean it will outsell the competition based solely on that lower price. Yugos were infinitely cheaper than Mercedes Benz when Yugos were in the U.S. auto market. By your rationale Yugo should be thriving to this day in the U.S., solely due to price, and outselling Mercedes. Yet you don't need to be an econ major to know a product of sufficiently poor quality will not sell well in a given market. You cited the comparative ticket prices, both primary and secondary markets between the Steelers and Jaguars. You beat your chest over the disparate pricing, yet are completely silent on the issue of comparative quality. That's a spectacularly disingenuous argument. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

We're still going to get a new QB, right? I mean - dude was actually right. Right?
Ranking 28th in ticket sales out of 32 is nothing to be proud of. And a quality QB would go a long, long way towards repairing that problem. ![]()

Expanding on your Mercedes/Yugo example, the problem is that the Steelers offered a Saturn product at a Mercedes price. The Jags offered a Yugo at a Yugo price. In both cases, the potential buyers remained silent and stayed home (as indicitive by the #28 and #30 rating).
For those of you too young to know what I am referring to when I mentioned "Yugo..."

That is a reasonable take. I would counter that even though the 2013 model class was not typical Mercedes (Steelers) quality, it had the brand name recognition and reputation for high quality for 40 years. The Yugo priced Jaguars also had the Yugo brand recognition and Yugo quality. In other words, just because a product is priced as it is worth doesn't mean people are inclined to buy it. Worst to 1st. If they didnt show a lack of going, dont accept the tickets in the first place. You need to do more research. Let's take Detroit. In 2009, the year after they went 0-16, the Detroit Lions average attendance was 49,395 and 31st in the league. They were even 1 spot behind the Jaguars that year who were 30th. Jaguars on the other hand average 10,000 more fans per game after a 2-14 season. Can't argue Cleveland. They have good fans and certainly deserve better. Jag fans have done fine considering how bad we have been recently and short history. They have increased ticket sales dramatically since even 2009 by 10,000 tickets per game. Now Khan and Company need to start delivering on their end. Khan and Lamping have stated as much that they are responsible as well. Quote:For those of you too young to know what I am referring to when I mentioned "Yugo..." I think the point is you can find examples of both and trying to compare them to a football team which is such a unique product to cars and hamburgers is a little silly. Hurricane, Steeler fans are raised and born steelers fans. It's in their blood. Regardless of price and product, they will have that advantage over us. Jag fans are getting there. Give us something to cheer for and this city will explode. Steelers have been ridiculously good for a long time. Worst record ever is 5-11? Are you freaking kidding me?

Quote:Let it go? Absolutely not! We must protect this house! We must be angry and offended! Harrumph! This is 100% true but still... the fact that it's apparently universal knowledge that the Jaguars can't sell tickets because of no QB is kind of brow raising.
No pain, no gain.

You missed my point when I used Detroit and Cleveland as examples. People want to beach and moan about outsiders attacking our fan base when it comes to attendance. I mentioned those two cities because they have long deep established football traditions in their cities, so the attendance coupled with the losing gives them a slight pass. We dont have that luxury here. What if Khan and Co. cant deliver a good product on the field. then what? Oh I know, keep supporting the team through ticket sales that demonstrates loyalty and a commitment to a devotion to the Jags. It's as simple as that.

Quote:Good Job stat boy. This is what you said: Look at Cleveland, Detroit, etc, those cities have had losing seasons in the last 5-10 years with a crappy local economy they show up to games and dont make excuses. Point was, any team can see an impact in ticket sales if their team is constantly losing. And no, Detroit fans didn't show up to games when they were losing. The Jags actually increased ticket sales while the team got worse. I think that is a good thing. Khan and Lamping, as I pointed out, stated the fans were doing their part and that they have to do theirs which is to bring a competitive football team. I don't even think Jag fans are asking for a winning team at this point. Just a team that competes on the field. I'll support the team regardless. I'm a die hard fan. But if we want to be realistic, with a population this size and a team who has been this bad for this long, we need the team to be better to sell more tickets. That's reality. |
