I'm not claiming to be more important than anyone else.  A great thinker taught that anybody can be kind to their friends and rude to their enemies.  He said we should be kind to our enemies if we wanted to see a better world.  I'm just saying, if you're rude and divisive to me, that matters, just as much as when you're rude or divisive to anyone else.

You're not my enemy. I rarely say anything to you and I'm not rude when I do. I simply don't like 99% of what you have to say because you talk out of both sides of your mouth just like the politicians we love to hate around here. I may not like 99% of what some here have to say as well but they don't claim to be one thing when it's clear they are another. 

I am a "what you see is what you get" kind of person and I value that in others. I have no respect for people who are two-faced.

Like if Mike bit  me, I’d shoo him away.  That or he better hope I never found out about it.

I appreciate the clarification.  Some of us don’t have the time to read in full all of the threads.  I will most definitely (in my straightest of faces) have a good stern talking with her.  

People aren’t nice to each other these days.  It’s the nature of what we’re living with.  We’re all guilty.  But if she asks not to be replied to, why would you?  Whether you agree or not.  Does that make her the bad one or you, for not accepting her and her wishes/uniqueness/whatever you want to call it? Are we not now supposed to be accepting and courteous to everyone’s whims and wishes these days? Or only when it suits our agendas?

So, if you all will indulge me, and stop the food fight for a few posts, I have an honest question with no hidden agenda. And here it is:

What exactly do you mean if you say you are "proud to be an American?"

I love this country. I'm damn glad I was born here and live here. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Taken as a whole, it's the best place on earth. But I wouldn't use the word "proud" because I didn't have anything to do with it. I wasn't born here on purpose. I'm not one of the founding fathers. They're the ones that should be proud. So should all the people who died defending this country. They should be proud.

I'm proud of my own accomplishments, in a way. But I didn't cause myself to be born in the United States. That was just luck.

So what does it mean to you when you say you are "proud to be an American?"
