Making guys like Meyer your GM is how you waste a generational talent at QB.

Oh, now we’re blaming Meyer for failing to have foreknowledge of an injury. Got it

Taking a running back, the least valuable position you can draft, to be a change of pace back/receiver was bad drafting. The injury likely ends whatever effective career he would have had, so you can pretend taking a change of pace back high wasn't the height of idiocy, and it was just bad luck in injuries, but he would have had to be a pro bowl level change of pace back to justify taking him in the first round. At this point we can call it what it was, a clueless coach doing something he never should have been in position to do from the start.

Anyone else thinking he takes someone very similar to Etienne high in next year's draft, now? Because, you know, the problems protecting the QB are because the team needs more "explosive playmakers."

It was already unlikely the Jags give ETN a second contract but now one of his prime years as a running back is gone. So essentially 3-4 years of service for a 1st round pick. Not good.
My point was not that it’s a bad thing he’s out, but that you can’t use that unforeseen injury as ammunition against Urban.

Late round picks are often higher second round talent, and he hasn’t played a regular season down yet and so therefore he is a bad pick; he never got a chance to prove yet if he’s pro bowl level. Urban hasn’t even coached a full regular season yet, and he’s a bad coach and GM. I love it. We should fire them all now and get ahead the bandwagon for the 2022 coaching search.

Should have taken an O lineman with that pick.

And what if that lineman got injured? Do we still hit a square on the “urban sux” bingo card?

the worst thing about the injury is this happens every year it seems. Jags lead the nfl in injurys to key players.   sad thing is if you won the super bowl by that jags would be nfl champs for the last serveal years.  unforttanttly we don't.

Myer should keep  trevor on the bench until they get a better offenssive liine.

Well it is a response to how this franchise is run. Where is the glimmer of potential for how things are being done?

Hey we got Trevor Lawrence, but that is countered by not addressing anything that will help him through rookie struggles.
Oline upgrades ... nah
Wide Receiver upgrades ... hey we signed that one guy
TE - Circus Tebow and poor slow crappy drafting. That will work.

The defense is a remnant and believing  3-4 transition will be easy is foolish. This is a poorly run franchise. Why did they put their eggs in the 25th selection but do nothing in the other areas?

Well who else are we going to blame? Besides, an O lineman at that position would have been far greater team value. Then we would really stick it to Urbs.

I agree we need lineman, but if the Jags had a board and there wasn’t a lineman graded that high for the pick it fit, would you have rather them reached? I’m not saying that’s what actually happened, but we don’t know. And knowing the usual suspects they would have complained it was a reach and that “[insert name here] was available why didn’t get him he’s much better”.

Does he have first hand knowledge of the extent of the injury, or is he offering a best case scenario?

I was wondering to myself why is ETN even playing? They know what he can do in practice . Time to remove all the top line starters.

This was all known by most jags fans I've seen. Problems is, well 2 problems. The GM hire was not liked, previous players were struggling in a 43 and are 34 players but the secondary and interior DLine is leaving a little to be desired in pass rush n coverage.

Secondary is suspect but is young an gellin. we are moving but need the trenches to make it worth celebrating.

It’s the NFL. There are bad 1st round picks and great 6th round picks. The draft is a crap shoot. This injury could have happened in mini-camp, conditioning, summer camp.
No use wasting time with would have, could have conjecture.
Next man up.

Yes.

Do we really forget that quickly how needs bases reaches have crippled this franchise before?

You don't get it. This is about drafting Etienne in the first place. If we just wanted a speedster that we could use as a weapon, we could have taken Rondale Moore, Shi Smith, Elijah Moore or several other players later in the draft. All are even faster than Etienne. ESPN stated that Meyer said he drafted Etienne without even knowing how he was gonna use him. Who does that? Drafting a RB in round 1 is never a good idea, especially when your O-Line is crap and we've all known for years that our O-Line is among the worst in the NFL. Our starting OT's gave up the most pressures of any other tandem in the league in 2020, by a large margin. People aren't criticizing Meyer for not foreshadowing the injury, they are criticizing him for drafting a RB in round 1, even though he admittedly didn't know how he was gonna use him. Now, he isn't gonna be used at all this season. That pick should've been used on something we actually needed like another O-Lineman or a TE, not a "weapon" that you didn't even know how you were gonna use.
