Do we really forget that quickly how needs bases reaches have crippled this franchise before?

I don't care, a first round RB at this stage in this franchise's life is a bad pick. I would rather have another big body on either side of the ball at 25 than ETN. If you can't find one big guy worthy of the 25th pick in this draft then you should fire your scouts.

We just need to make a checklist of people to blame for ETN's injury..

I'm sure this checklist will be the size of a novel once completed.. Don't forget to blame yourself as well. Everyone should get a share of the pie..

Just slide Shenault back into that spot and we’re covered this year. Can’t predict injuries and it doesn’t make it a bad pick because he got hurt. Had a feeling they were holding way back on how they were going to implement him on the field with Robinson. Now we have to wait another year.

Is that any worse than drafting a player even though you admit that you have no clue how you're going to use him?

No use wasting time with would have, could have conjecture.
Next man up.

But we still need to get through the first four stages of grief before we can do that.

Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
And then Acceptance.

It was already unlikely the Jags give ETN a second contract but now one of his prime years as a running back is gone. So essentially 3-4 years of service for a 1st round pick. Not good.
Why is it unlikely the Jags will give him a 2nd contract?  Dave and Tom are gone now

You don't get it. This is about drafting Etienne in the first place. If we just wanted a speedster that we could use as a weapon, we could have taken Rondale Moore, Shi Smith, Elijah Moore or several other players later in the draft. All are even faster than Etienne. ESPN stated that Meyer said he drafted Etienne without even knowing how he was gonna use him. Who does that? Drafting a RB in round 1 is never a good idea, especially when your O-Line is crap and we've all known for years that our O-Line is among the worst in the NFL. Our starting OT's gave up the most pressures of any other tandem in the league in 2020, by a large margin. People aren't criticizing Meyer for not foreshadowing the injury, they are criticizing him for drafting a RB in round 1, even though he admittedly didn't know how he was gonna use him. Now, he isn't gonna be used at all this season. That pick should've been used on something we actually needed like another O-Lineman or a TE, not a "weapon" that you didn't even know how you were gonna use.

Give me Etienne over any of those you names other than Elijah Moore .

Etienne was always going to wind up being a bad pick, it's sad that it had to wind up this way though.

It's a good thing ETN didn't tear his ACL - Baalke would be rushing to give him an 8 year extension.

And what if that lineman got injured? Do we still hit a square on the “urban sux” bingo card?

I thought that was the "free" space.

Really? Even though the HC admitted he didn't know how he was gonna use him? You have to draft players with clear focus about how they are gonna fit into your schemes. That wasn't done in this case.

His season is over. IR-return is only available for players who make the final 53 man roster.

Myer should keep  trevor on the bench until they get a better offenssive liine.

do they? who was the key players we lost last season?

Are we honestly going back to Foles to cry poor us? Judging by how he played afterward both here and at other places we weren't missing much while he was out .

Let's not fool ourselves and make like we just lost a McCaffrey or Barkley. Etienne played limited snaps so far this preseason and wasn't really lighting things up when his number was called.

We should have just signed the 5 Pro Bowl O-linemen that was sitting outside Meyer and Baalke's office waiting for something to do

It could have been that easy

If he didn't know how to use Etienne he wouldn't of known how to use any of the guys you named

I don't think anyone is casting blame for the injury. They are more upset that we wasted a pick on an RB in the first place, and now that this RB will not contribute at least for the majority of  this season if not longer, the frustration with the pick is boiling over. Other posters are right, this injury could have happened in practice, scrimmage, game 1 of the season, or any other time. Similarly, no matter who we took at that spot, fate could have caught up with them in equally disappointing fashion, we don't know. Doesn't mean it still wasn't a headscratcher of a pick in the first place.

Sorry if this squelches the witch hunt for ya.

Jags also waived Derwin Gray, Kenny Randall and Jameson Houston before placing Etienne on IR.

It's not a witch hunt, it's a blame hunt.. And so far we have Oesher, Urbs and if it was an acl tear, Baalke.. Names are only starting to drop. Will be interesting to read.

No, he can't. His season is over.

And to your other point about how it's unlikely he gets another contract here: how much money is he going to command and let me know which big running back contracts have worked out. The RB position is so easy to fill that it would be absurd to spend a lot of money on a running back..... even the great ones. You think the Cowboys are pumped to have given Zeke all that money when Pollard can do the work?

But on second thought.... The Jags FO is so poor that they just might give ETN one!

The good news is, we should get a solid LT in the top 5 next April.
