NFL draft: Scouting combine winners and losers

#21

Quote:I don't know how many of you are Gator fans, but if you have ever watched Easley play, you know that none of the above is a concern for him.  Not only was he a complete monster on the line with possibly the quickest first step I have ever seen a tackle have, he was also constantly dancing in between plays and seemed to be having more fun than anyone else on the field.  He is a wacky character with a very different personality though.  He used to bring a Chucky doll with him to every game and carry it on the Gator walk before the games with him, when he found out he was out for the rest of the year he passed the Chicky doll on to Dante Fowler.  He seemed to be loved by his teammates and things like the Chucky doll and dancing between downs makes think enthusiasm, love of the game, and attitude are no problem for him.  He has always been...odd to say the least in his interviews so this doesn't surprise me.  However, if he stays healthy, whatever team gets him is getting an elite, top ten pick level talent and I hope its us.

Was Harvey a monster too?

Huh

Quote:I read that when Manziel interviewed with the Jaguars, he entered the room, everyone stood up, and he went around the room and addressed each person by name, nice to meet you, all that, starting with Shad Khan, Tony Khan, Dave Caldwell, Gus Bradley, and Jedd Fisch.   He was very well prepared, and he knew everyone's name without being introduced, or ever having met them before.

How does a guy who doesn't throw, measures short of 6 ft, showed only good but not great athleticism be considered a "Winner" of the combine?

Why, because his agent prepped him on our organizational profile?

He was good, but not like Easley.  I was surprised how badly he busted in the NFL but I wasn't sure trading up into the top ten for him was a good move.  He was talented but only really played up to that talent one year at Florida.  I'm not sure what he has to do with Easley.

His hands are fine. Yes, he had some drops, but no more than your average receiver

No, but I've talked to Gator fans about him.  He also has bad knees apparently.

Quote:I have some questions....

What is the problem with Clowney's work ethic? I mean I hear people say he has questionable work ethic, but what specifically is questionable?

Does he not show up to practice? Does he leave practice early? Is he not prepared mentally for games? ETC.

Can you be specific about what exactly is questionable?

People question his work ethic because he didn't make a tackle or sack on every single play last season.

Or he saw what happened to his boy Marcus Lattimore and didn't want to get injured and lose millions of dollars.

If I was as good as he is and I was guaranteed to make millions of dollars if I stay healthy, I'm pretty sure I would take a couple plays off during college too. I also heard on Mike and Mike that no d-linemen ever have the camera watch them on every play. Clowney was the first one ever. So he was obviously scrutinized on every play when a lot of linemen take some plays off.

Then save the smart remarks because he is a disruptive force in the middle. He had an injury like most players do at some point.

Both knees...not one injury.

One of the most disruptive linemen in the Southeastern Conference, Easley tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus in his right knee during practice last Tuesday. He tore the ACL in his left knee in November 2011.

Maybe his agent drilled it into him to help them both make a lot of money.

I think that is part of it too. Quite frankly, I think in 5-10 years, people will look back at these Clowney criticisms and laugh.

I'd love either Clowney or Teddy. If we get Clowney, I'd be keeping my fingers crossed for Mariota next year.

If the left knee is such a problem then why did he play so well before hurting the other knee?

Youre ignorant bro. Maybe his knees are too far gone and will never be the same... idk and neither do you. Either way your "DERP Wuz Derrivk Harvey a beast too derrrrp" comment was uncalled for.

We're not allowed to disparage former Gator players on here.  Gotcha.

Also, you can't insult him although he's allowed to do the same to you. Still not sure how that works, but I am thinking that lithium may be somehow involved.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Pick apart his play or injury history all you want, I doubt anyone has an issue with that(although you wont find much to criticize about his play).  The problem you're having is you didn't criticize him based on anything relevant.  You insinuate that since Harvey was high draft pick Gator lineman and busted hard, Easley will follow the same path.  In reality the only thing the two have in common is playing for the same college, which means absolutely nothing.  Yes, his injury history is cause for concern, and thats the only reason he wont be a top fifteen pick this year.  When healthy he was the most dominant defensive lineman in college football this past year(yes, more so than Clowney or Barr or Jernigan, etc.).  That injury history is why he is gonna slip probably to the third or fourth round, but he is 100% worth the gamble at that juncture because he is a dominant lineman when healthy.  So I hope he ends up here.
