If you get stuffed over and over running the ball when the defense is expecting pass I would have said bad o-line

You have to protect your QB. Running the dang ball is one of the best ways of doing that.

We ran the ball and didn't get stuffed at all, that means you keep doing it over and over until you do. Didn't you watch all the other teams play us last year?

We did have like 4 nice runs called back for holding early on in the game. It was always 1 step forward, 2 steps back type of crap. The Offense just couldn't get out of itself's own way. If even half of those early drops/penalties don't happen, it's definitely a different game.

I'd even argue it wasn't a major problem to begin with. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The LAST guy I'd pin the shortcomings of 2019 and 2020 on is Gardner Minshew, a rookie/2nd year QB. Sure, if Trevor comes anywhere close to his ceiling he will be a far superior QB. That by no means discredits Minshew as a serviceable starter. The dude almost salvaged our 2019 campaign had we not sat him for old man Foles for 3ish miserable games and he was set up to fail in 2020. I'd argue that most QBs in the league placed in that situation wouldn't have fared much better, and we are going to see that with Trevor this year. This team's bad, Oline is bad, defense is bad, and we lack discipline. It's the same ole Jags.

Penalties wiped out two good runs and put the team in bad down and distance situations.  When that combined with the defense not doing anything to stop the Texans from scoring, you get 51 passes.

Completely agree.

Thing is, I think three of those holding penalties were just completely made up.

Holding penalty is the only way the Refs can turn the tide of a game. There is technically a hold on each play.

The call against Taylor was bogus for sure. I dunno who #40 is on our OL, have to assume they meant Cann #60, but they didn't show a replay and nothing looked obvious live. The Linder one was close. He did give him an extra tug and it could have gone either way imo.

Carlos Hyde led the team in rushing attempts today.

#40 is a CB named Rusnik (?).  I looked closely and I saw nothing resembling a tug by Linder, but maybe I just missed it.  Those three penalties were huge and to me looked completely contrived and fictional.

This is exactly why I was bashing Lawrence in January-febuary before we took him. When watching him at Clemson there was a lot of "Wow that was pretty good" followed by another play where you'd just be like "what was he even thinking". He has so much talent but he's inconsistent and it just shows much more in the NFL.

You were bashing him because you are an idiot. No other reason.

No, it wasn't. What I saw was a rookie quarterback with a terrible game plan surrounded by mediocre talent. You saw something that wasn't there just to satisfy your personal delusion.

You can Beat-Hard with that take. Trevor wasn’t great but he is the least of this teams problems.

So when he threw a pass directly into a texans defenders hands, no wr around that was the game plan not his fault? Or when he overthrew an open WR for an INT was the gameplans fault? Look man, I get it.. around these parts we aren't allowed to talk down our golden boy. And i'm not even trying to, I pointed out his obvious flaws coming into the pro game which i'm sure can be coached out of him, but either way was visible to people with eyes, and today and in the preseason we've seen it. He'll wow you one play with a deep ball threading the needle, and the next he'll overthrow a 5 yard route. It's something he's done since year one at clemson. I'm not saying he's a bust, theres obviously some bright spots to what we saw today. But I'm not like you where i'm going to pretend it was a perfect showing. That's just not accurate.

Edit: Also not to leave out the drops by our WR's and O'Shaunessy, That was some of the worst football I have seen in Jax since 2010-11 in regards to how awful some of our WR's hands were today. Aside from Marvin Jones who again, I had long arguments with people on this board saying he was our #1 and not Chark.. but I get roasted per usual..

I agree with you, but i'm also not going to pretend he was perfect either. Been there done that with many of our past first round QBs. He's shown the ability to be great, the question for me since he was in college has been can he combine his extreme playmaking ability on deep balls, with some consistency on the easy stuff. Haven't seen much improvement there yet but I feel like we will throughout the season.
