Impressions From the Cardinals Game
|
Still too undisciplined with dumb penalties , procedure errors, some bone headed play calling and hold onto the darn ball. Will someone please help out the rookie.
This isn't an 0-17 team and I hope they improve enough to let some talent help out more. I am disappointed in the WR play they don't attack the ball or do anything that stands out. This team needs a real serviceable TE. It speaks volumes that the new guy had to play so much. Yikes

Here's my impression from being at the game.
This was our best game yet. We could have won, but a couple of critical errors cost us the game. Aside from the flea-flicker pick-6, we were going in for a TD when Hollister bobbled a perfect pass and turned it into an INT. Once again, Campbell was in position to defend a deep pass and failed to find the ball. Trevor is up and down. Brilliant in stretches, idiotic in stretches. Sometimes, he looks like the best QB we've ever had. I think he'll be a great QB. The defense is definitely getting better. But I'm starting to wonder if Campbell will ever learn to defend a deep pass. We did so much better mixing in the run. But our offense is still kind of out of sync. From reading the posts this morning, almost everyone seems to be overreacting as usual.

It's a shame the front office and coaches are so insistent on their refusal to help him get better. Campbell has a deficiency that you don't really acquire, you either have a sense of ball location or you don't. Not saying it's all inclusive, but in over 40 years of watching I've never seen a professional player figure that out after he got to the NFL. He's definitely better outside than in the slot though. For all of 1 series the coaches figured out that James Robinson is the best player on this team, and it lasted just that long before they forgot about him again. It really sucks when your team is bad because of things so basic that message board morons get them and professionals don't. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

It was about 8" to his right but still within his wingspan so shoulda been caught. The two biggest bonehead plays were definitely Norwell spinning like a top and Wilson's penalty for the push at the end of that otherwise great tackle of his. Those 3 plays may very well have cost us the game. Also, a Taven sighting. An almost oopsie sack that he got with an off-balance, one handed push to Murray's side. But the defense played nasty today. In a good way, they just got worn down. The Cards defense was sucking wind after that long drive in the 3rd quarter but we let them off the hook. Marvin Jones is far and away our most consistent receiver followed by 'Viska. But Viska and Chark are dropping too many passes. I would like to see TL make more pass attempts at Manhertz. We also need more than the above 3 WRs to be making plays. Defensively we all know more and sooner pressure on the opposing QBs will greatly help the secondary Of our top 5 picks from the draft, only Trevor and Campbell are getting any playing time that anyone has noticed. Meyer stated before the season that those 5 needed to be big contributors to the team. Well, most of them are not so far. That needs to change pretty soon Agnew is money. Enough said on that . Lambo looks a mere shadow of his former self This was our best game so far. We could have won it but didn't. Going forward, continue to improve. Get more contributions from the rookies (Cisco, Little even Tufele). TL continue to learn and grow as an NFL QB. Most important? More pressure and sooner on opposing QBs We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Schenault and Chark are playing slow. They seem clunky and out of place. They need to play better.
Lambo has good leg strength on kickoffs so it isn't a structural issue. He just has a bad bad case of the yips.

So from the 2nd Cardinals possession, I was listening on the radio. Thank you for the great review as usual. Regarding the parts in bold... I just can't believe how Lambo has seemed to have just "lost it". The guy used to be the most consistent player on the team the last couple of seasons. Trevor Lawrence has been "so-so" in my opinion for much of the reasons that you stated. There is no denying that the guy is talented and will eventually be a good QB. I think he's going to need a few more games before everything starts kind of "slowing down" for him. It's never wise to just throw a ball up like he did on the flea-flicker play. I also don't quite get the RB rotation. I may be off on this, but I think that they use Hyde way more than I thought they would. It's almost like they don't have a "feature" back. While Hyde had done decent, I feel like we should be feeding Robinson more. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I expected TL to go through some early struggles. That's the case with most rookie QBs, especially those who go to bad teams. As long as he remains healthy, and the team actually manages to put some good talent around him, he will be outstanding for us. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Whoever specifically drew this play up needs to get canned, just for that scheming alone.
I thought we were in the game and playing quite well for 3 quarter

We would have been better off just running the ball every pay for the rest of the game with a 9 point lead. Ouch

Unfortunately a player like JJ Watt doesn't do what is "expected". From what I understand, a rushing defender will turn away from the "flow" of a running play to come around to the back side. JJ Watt just didn't turn away and made a good play. Sitting back and looking at it after the fact, Trevor Lawrence just made a horrible throw. There are 10 kinds of people in this world.
