People were encouraged by Walker Little's performance against the Patriots last week (one of the few Jaguars to warrant any kind of praise). Given his physical tools, his relatively high draft position, he was projected by most to be an eventual starter.
In an interview earlier in the week, Little stated he has been working all season at both left and RT position. Assuming he is capable of being a quality starter at both tackle positions, what is the best option for the Jaguars' OL and why? 1. Cam Robinson at LT and Walker Little at RT 2. Terrron Armstead at LT and Walker Little at RT 3. Neal at LT and Little at RT 4. Little at LT and Neal at RT 5. Little at LT and other rookie (Kennard, Penning, Petit Frere) at RT 6. Other In short, what would be the best use of current personnel. the draft, and free agency? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I think Armstead will laugh at us for even calling to ask about him coming to play for us, so I will say 5 or 6. Little at LT and rookie at RT or second tier FA OT and Little at either tackle position.

Given his physical tools, his relatively high draft position, he was projected by most to be an eventual starter. Option 2 is by far the best, but we're not gonna get Armstead. I'd try to land him, but I know this is gonna be a likely impossibility. When that fails, I'd go with option A, by tagging Robinson again and then still proceeding to draft a guy with experience at both OT positions like Max Mitchell of Louisiana. I'd still go forward with my plan to draft a couple OT's. They can compete with Robinson and Little for the starting OT spots or we could move them inside to OG. I like having versatile players on the offensive line. I just have everyone compete for starting positions and we play the best guys, no matter who they are. Robinson has improved enough that he is serviceable. He's only given up 1 sack on the season. The problem is the right side of the O-Line.
I think we are in a worse shape along the OL going into the off season this year than we were last year.
At least last year, we knew guys like Linder were coming back...and we convinced Norwell to stick around. But now, we KNOW beyond any doubt that Jawaan Taylor sucks, Norwell and Linder are likely gone. The way I see it, we need to draft/sign no fewer than 3 offensive linemen. I think Walker Little has shown some good things, and for now I might be okay penciling him into one of the T spots, but we have to invest heavily along the OL. If we think Little can play LT well, I think Cam Robinson walks, and we have to upgrade RT. If we keep Cam, then Little goes to RT. While that limits our immediate OL investment to the interior 3, I think we'd still need a longer term answer at LT. Even if Cam stays, I'd still prefer for the team to draft at least one potential starter at RT. He could be developed on the bench, and in case Cam falters or gets hurt, Little could switch to LT. I would hope the new coaching staff might consider working Taylor in at G. Moving inside worked for Ereck Flowers. Maybe it could work similarly with Taylor. But I'd still want to sign Scherff and draft a G and C. This is why I want to trade back. All of these needs on the offense alone is going to require a lot of 2nd and 3rd round picks. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
I don't think there's any question that Walker Little will be our LT next year.

Fortunately it's a really solid and deep IOL class and our 3rd rounders will be 65 and like 70. We can easily get two starting guards at those picks if that is our priority.
I don't even hate someone like Zion or Kinnard at 33 if we could get Wan'Dale at 65. Right now, I'm thinking between possibly franchising Cam again or Walker Little, LT is ok. But somehow upgrading RT is of paramount importance. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
If we're waiting til the 3rd on a tackle as of right now I think by far the best option is Mitchell. I don't think Faalele is going to fall quite that far.

I really like Max Mitchell in the 3rd and Nick Ford in the 4th. Mitchell has extensive experience at both OT positions and Ford has played every position on the O-Line and has excelled this season at Center. I'd also look at an OG/OT like Jack Snyder with one of our 6th round picks. He has played both OT positions, but imo, he projects inside to OG. Having the versatility that these guys offer allows us to move pieces around on the O-Line during injuries without losing quality. We show less advertisements to registered users. I'd ether favor that or 5, because I'm not very keen on Neal at 1, and I don't see a trade happening unless we accept a fleecing. I'd even be ok with moving back up into the latter part of the first at the expense of next year's picks if there is someone they target to improve the offense (either lineman or WR). We wasted this first year with Trevor, I think we'll need some urgency now to get building into what we foresee as the nexus of this team's future. If we dibble and dabble over the course of a few years, we may find windows closing before they even get a chance to be opened. |
