If Taylor Lewan inexplicably falls to us in the 2nd round (that won't happen) the Jaguars would sprint the podium to select him. Ideally, Austin Pasztor is a your third tackle, I guy that can start a game or two at the right tackle spot, or can slide in and play guard if needed, I don't see him as a long term solution at right tackle, the Jaguars need to get "nastier" at that position.

As to why change schemes to fit personnel and vice versa, Why doesn't Pizza Hut sell cheeseburgers and fries? Because it's a pizza joint that's why. The powers that be want to run a hybrid  ZBS and they will fit the personnel to do just that. It's called building a roster. if your QB can only throw screens are you going to keep him?

It was kinda silly to install a line blocking system like that when we had so few players to effectively run it. 

 

That is exactly what Andy Reid did in KC. That is why Jon Asamoah ended up on the bench. Also why they will let Albert walk.

 

As far as "effectively run it". What blocking scheme would guys like Meester, Rackley, Brewster, etc. "run effectively"? They just are not very good.

He certainly has been mediocre but was a hell-a lot better than the brutally awful Will Rackley.

Rackley was hurt all of last year and ended up on IR again..  It looks to me like they want to give him another shot when he's healthy..    IMO, he did a decent job but had some high profile whiffs which were highlighted..  It's those plays that those who don't really watch every play on coaches film see and influenced by.  Rack is on the last year of his rookie contract making far less than Uche.  He'll be in camp and we'll see..

I'm not so sure Caldwell spends big on the OL.  He may target 1 high profile FA and/or spend a fairly high draft pick on the OL, but I think he will also look at 2nd-tier FAs, lower round picks, and even undrafted rookies, practice squad players,  and street FAs.  The Dave & Gus method may be to bring in 5 or 6 new players and let a competitive process begin. 

 

I also like seeing that Dave is comfortable staring into the Abyss...he has 1 quality starter on the interior OL and cuts that player loose.  Dave has a strong vision for the future of the Jags.
