For the Jaguars draft complainers!
|
I hear some say that the Jaguars didn't do much this off-season for offense. When Trevor steps onto the field this year, he will typically have Kirk, M. Jones, Z. Jones, Engram and Etienne as receiving options. 4 out of the 5 will be new to him this year. As for the group protecting him, they added an All Pro offensive lineman in Scherff. Many believe that Little will take over and upgrade our right tackle position. If our rookie center earns a starting role, that could be 3 out of our 5 linemen upgraded. That's a lot of change in one off-season. I also think we'll have far better coaching.
I'm also one who believes that preventing a touchdown is just as valuable as scoring a touchdown. I also think a good defense helps your offense. Not being behind 0-7 or 0-14 to start the game allows the offense to maintain better balance and be less predictable. Additionally, better field position helps an offense score points. More possessions helps an offense score points. Getting to face a tired defense because the other team just went three and out helps an offense score points. We made major upgrades to our defense which besides lowering our opponent's score should also help our offense score points. We show less advertisements to registered users. As much as I do think we helped the defense, I still worry about the ability to generate pressure. They did have an in ability to get off the field due to many issues the last few years, but a major part of that was inconsistent and weak QB pressure. There were just way too many 3 and longs that teams managed to convert.
I presume Caldwell's scheme will take a lot of blitz packages and looks from Bowles to help with that. But I just worry about relying on the scheme to generate the pressure for this season while the Jags develop Walker.

There were different directions the Jaguars could have gone with the late round picks, but we did have a big need when it came to cornerback depth.

I saw that thread with Walker vs. Neal and yes, Neal dominated - but let me lay down some reality that scouts know, but fans seem to ignore: Walker had a qb hit that should have been a sack and missed another tackle for loss. For 12 reps that's a plus for walker.
Walker was just an unnecessary gamble - Hutch was a much more established pass rusher and team leader.
Lloyd sounds great but we could have used that tradeup for a #1 WR or Linderbaum. We got a a LB very early in the draft and a center later on . . . those should have been swapped. If we hadn't taken Lloyd I'd be happy with Muma. We didn't get a WR or TE, but we got 2 LBs. Swell. I am happy that we've bolstered the defense. I just think our number one asset is Trevor, and our primary focus should have been protecting him and getting him great targets. We fell short on that. ![]()

As someone who loves Chad Muma as a prospect, Devin Lloyd has legitimate top player in the draft ability, insanely good leader and has a versaltile skill set. No WR/OL available at 27 was worth it over Lloyd. (05-01-2022, 02:33 PM)TheDuke007 Wrote: I hear some say that the Jaguars didn't do much this off-season for offense. Why is anyone buying the narrative that Travon is a project? From day one, he will set the edge. From day one, he will get penetration. From day one, teams will have to game plan around him. His worth to the team does not rise and fall on sack totals. Just because he plays OLB does not mean he is going to be a sack specialist. This player will do many things including set Devin Lloyd and Josh Allen free to go headhunting. We need to get beyond the "he didn't have many sacks in college" tunnel vision. Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean each separately said he was the best player on their defense. Have some faith in the coaching staff and FO, guys. We got a good one. ![]() Fix the O-Line!

This whole draft grade bs right after said draft is ridiculous. We can't begin to judge until we see these rookies take some snaps in the league.
We also seem to "win" the offseason having home run drafts only for the players to look like bums. Break the trend ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Imagine a teacher giving you an A or F before you even took the test. Gotta love it!
![]() ![]() Dude... I am just going to let it play out just like they let their draft play out. I see a lot of good football players in this class that clearly look better and show more potential over the last two dog [BLEEP] rosters and dog [BLEEP] coaching staffs that were here. ![]() Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Fun fact we according to the sports writers we had a draft grade of A+/- 2015 thru 2020 and all that time we had 1 good year that was mostly due to free agents (2017) Last year was a C and this year we are getting what D's? so I look for our team to get better !!
