In the $30K & under venue, what do you think is the best vehicle for the money?

Quote:ha - thats funny. I actually tried the "small car" once....Bought a Honda Civic hatch back in 1992  (was "teal" ironically, lol)- convinced myself it was a smart buy due to the gas milage.....6 months later I was getting rid of it because I hated it. That said, I don't like the overly huge monstrosity's either.... I like a mid-size vehicle like some of the ones mentioned above, like the Saab & the Infiniti.

Teal?? OMG...you're a girl!! Tongue

I'm shocked you didn't buy a black car, they're WAY more intimidating!! :teehee:

I've always liked the Mazda RX-8 even with its slight problem of the engine disintegrating.

Quote:IMO, you can't compare an Infiniti to a Honda.  Comparing an Acura and Infiniti is more accurate.

Acuras are Hondas, but I get the point.

The Acura Integra was one of my fav's.

Yep, at the time it was a fresh, hip color for auto's, especially smaller cars. Maybe thats part of why I hate teal now - association with that car that I wound up hating after 6 months.

I've never owned a black colored car. Looks great brand new, but fades too quick, and also hell to keep clean. Especially in the winters up here with the road salt. Also is an oven in the summer.

You sound like Mr Bunny...one day years ago he was having one of those days where everything that could go wrong, did. He happened to be wearing a green shirt at the time, so now he HATES the color green!!

Yeah...we don't know anything about cars being hot like that down here! Tongue

Ah, must be how the young try to take "ownership" of things as "theirs" again,.... Fits though, as I outlined a big reason to why Soccer (in this country) is so popular with the young,...

We weren't poseurs like that when I was in my 20's. So many of this current crop of young people suffer from an identity crisis, which results in the examples such as them thinking you can be too old for a certain auto, or developing a phony liking for a sport just so they can seem "different". Sad, really.

Do you have some system of "robo-type" which spits out one of your many old-geeserisms?

I'm so glad you enlightened us as to how you were in your 20s (or was that the 1920s?). Thanks for your profession of sadness. It means so much.

Should you be ordering some more catheters?

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

Yeah, my hating teal most certainly could correlate with that experience in that car I mentioned......something about flushing $16,000 down the toilet will do that....lol

I rented a 2013 Ford Focus recently and really liked it.  Could find one loaded for around 20K I think. Good mileage and fairly well equipped for a car in the price range. The hatchback version looks pretty nice too.

I drive an '05 volvo S40 turbo  -AWD    Bought it  for $13K 2years ago with low, low miles.  I absolutely love it - but it is pricey to repair when necessary.  A 2013 focus would still have some warranty left and cheaper parts when warranty is up if you are thinking more practically.

Yeah, the new ones are definitely improved from the 2012 and before models.

I used to work at a car rental place and at times I would be working out of the Volvo service center.  I was amazed at how happy Volvo owners were to pay a ton of money for what I thought was routine service.

Can I have some examples/ prices/ comparisons/ that you and others are talking about when stating that Volvos are expensive for service?

That's what happens when car manufacturers make quality parts. It's the same with Saab. They cost more to buy and no one would know why, until they crashed one.

My wife just got a ford fusion a week ago with all the bells and whistles. Black leather int and better engine and we left out the door under 27k. We've always been truck people. I will always need a truck, but the car is kinda new to us both. So far her and I both love it. Good gas Milage, plenty of room. I'm not a giant but 6'0" I have plenty leg and head room. It isn't a race car but it did put me back in my seat when we test drove it. Haven't e read the whole thread so not sure if this is what ur looking for or notShe drove a truck ever since high school and that was almost 15 years ago for her. She doesn't miss her truck one bit.

Oh, I thought asking someone with first hand experience would have been good, too, but sorry there, Officer Coffey.

It's a little out of the price range but my new Corvette Stingray suits me fine while my Carrera S is getting serviced. (yawn)

I recently replaced the ignition coils in my volvo.  They were about 80$ each.  A similar American car might be $30-50 each. Not all parts will be THAT much more - but some will.

(One of the reasons I chose my car is that it's one of the few out there that combine a ballsy turbo, AWD and a 6 speed manual. I knew that repairs would be more - but try finding a car with all three  of those for less than $13K and low miles.  A'int gonna happen.)

2010 Subaru Impreza, Outback Sport trim. Maybe not a "Florida car" per se, but hands down the best vehicle I've ever owned. Paid $21,500 for it used in 2011 and it hasn't let me down since.
