Found it funny Carlyon I think on the Frank Frangie show was surprised by this defenses performance. Especially against the run. A lot of us on here are not surprised at all. It was pretty clear what they were doing in free agency and the draft. This division is won by the ground game. When you think of the tacks. You think of Henry. Not Tannehill. When you think of the clots. You think of Taylor. Not Ryan.

You don't go out and add guys like Fatukasi & Oluokun because you were concerned with the passing game capabilities in this division. Walker was also already highly touted as a run defender coming out of Georgia. Lloyd is a flyer so he can do a bit of both. It really shouldn't be surprising that this team is good against the run defensively when it was pretty obvious that was mission number on during the off season.

There is so much newness and youth on this team that they shouldn't realistically be able to come together this quickly, and while improvement was certainly expected, Number 1 in defensive standings against the run was not.  Remember when Philly won the off-season with the free agency "dream team" and then fell on their faces?  Hell, we've been winning the off-season almost every year, and it rarely makes much difference - the impact of the free agents we got this year is amazing on both sides of the ball.  Expensive free agents are a big fail much more often than not, and rookies rarely make a big impact, let alone elevate their teammates as Walker an Lloyd appear to be doing. 

It will be awesome and near miraculous if our team keeps it up for the rest of the season on both sides of the ball.  Can't wait to watch for the first time in a long time.

I am not surprised at all by the level of play on defense. They spent a historical amount of money this off season, specifically on the defensive side of the football. I expected results right away. You signed a guy that was well known for his run stuffing abilities from the Jets. You signed a guy that lead the entire league in tackles last year that clearly indicates he has a knack for getting after the ball carrier all over the field and then you drafted Walker who was an absolute wrecking ball for the Bulldogs in the ground game during his tenure there. 

So, no, not really surprised at all. When you go out and spend big money you expect big results. If I go out to dinner and drop $40 on a steak? It better be damn well good and worth the price. So far, it's looking like they're getting exactly what they paid for.

My point is that it's rare for expensive free agents to really be worth the price tag, but it looks like we've scored on all of them - that NEVER happens.  Most every time we end up with multiple threads discussing how much money was WASTED in free agency.

Agreed. The good thing is that your core players are still relatively young and running on their first contracts. They have some decisions to make in regards to Josh Allen and James Robinson though. For me it's a no brainer. You get them both locked down. Juwuan Taylor is also making a strong case to get him extended. That leaves a lot of questions with Walker Little in my opinion. Do you trade him for a new pick that you need value at in the off season?

I think you're going to have to move on from Shaq Griffin next year. Same for Rayshawn Jenkins & Roy Robertson-Harris. That's 15% of your cap hit right there right now just this year alone. After that group you're looking at guys like Evan Engram on a one year prove it deal. He may or may not come back. Then it's Marvin Jones and Brandon Scherff. 

Just going to have to rebuild through the draft and land some solid players to build around. You have Campbell and Williams as CB1 and CB2 potentially. Herndon isn't too bad. They traded for that guard and still have Bartch to move on from Scherff in the future. 

Again, picks are still on the table. I am looking at Mayer at TE from Notre Dame, Rice at WR from SMU & Ringo at CB from Georgia already in this draft class coming up next year to refill positions.

Same. If this team keeps playing this way they're potentially going to be in the right spot in RD1 to land him next year. I think he's a carbon copy of Heath Miller at the next level. Will he put up George Kittle or Kyle Pitts numbers? Doubtful. Would he flourish in Doug Pederson's offense? Absolutely.

That's what I was thinking too.. If the Jags should land somewhere between pick 10-15, they might have a good shot at him. Might have to move up a little, but this team is known for stock piling picks. Will definitely be interesting..

Yup. That's the name of the game though. Most weeks guys throw a couple passes that could be picked. I remember when Bortles was having his INT bad luck (bouncing off of shoes and whatnot) and his percentage of caught INTs was astronomically higher than the average. He threw some bad ones, but had the worst stretch of INT bad luck

If your franchise literally just broke the all time record for most money spent in free agency, you'd better hope you aren't going to follow that up with more big spending. 

Extensions/new contracts for our better talent approaching end of contract or massively outplaying their contract should be a priority.

As far as addressing needs on the roster through FA and the draft:

•  we may need depth or competition at interior OL depending on how Bartch and Fortner finish the year
  
• we will likely go after an X receiver - will that be draft or FA? 
  
•  we have to add tight ends or re-sign Arnold, Engram and Manhertz - all are impending FAs
  
•  we have to add depth at safety , maybe competition too
  
• James Robinson needs a deal ASAP
  
• Marvin Jones will likely be gone - do you pay a guy his age to keep continuity? Probably not
  
• Role players like Gotsis, Arden Key and Smoot are all set to depart unless paid
  
• If they want that QB room intact they'll have to pay Beathard
  

Obviously, they still need to spend some money on some of this ^ but it will have to be a fraction of what they spent in 2022

If your franchise literally just broke the all time record for most money spent in free agency, you'd better hope you aren't going to follow that up with more big spending.

I think Griffin, Jenkins, RRH are all gone. Plus some back end guys are likely out. Those 3 can free up the cap space for Allen and JRob.
