Caldwell can't coach

#21

I think secondary talent is a bigger problem than scheme and defensive play calling, but Caldwell could be trying a few things he is clearly not trying. Maybe he has valid reasons, maybe not.

I will say this about the talent:
They spent the last offseason fixing the run defense with their acquisitions.
I'd like to see that happen for the secondary. Upgrading Griffin, Jenkins and adding depth would probably do it.
However they do it - they need to be able to have at least 2 guys that can play press man and really disrupt routes at the LOS.

The secondary is better without Shaq right now. I had some PTSD on the Jones TD pass on the first drive, but outside of that, they didn't really throw too much on us. The problem, as stated here by many, is that they just can't make a play when we NEED them to. They'll do enough to keep us in it through the game and then just wilt when the game is on the line.

This week against the Giants it wasn’t Caldwell’s fault that Etienne fumbled. And it wasn’t his fault the offense scored 17 points.

So you're saying it hasn't been proven the Jaguars have problems stopping teams with running QBs?

Lol .... Wilson sucks and has a partially torn hamstring and Gordon is averaging less than 50 YPG.  You make it sound like we're going up against Elway and Terrell Davis

You say that, but, here it was they just let Matt Ryan two weeks ago have a career game and he was just benched. Then they just let Daniel Jones rush for 100 yards and set a new record from the 1940's or some crazy [BLEEP] like that.

I wouldn't put it past this defense. They have been absolutely horrible the last four weeks and they continue to kill themselves with penalties. Three weeks in a row they scored a Personal Foul flag against the QB that either kept their opponent's drive alive or nullified what could have been a game altering interception.

I understand that Wilson has looked bad. Denver in general has looked bad. But... so has this defense and this team is still 2 - 5 and every week they find new and interesting ways to dick the game up. Why should I believe that trend won't continue overseas this Sunday?

Who's better? Caldwell or the d coach we had last year? I thought the guy last year did well getting some pressure to the qb with less talent. This is a good defense. The problem is NO pressure. No sacks.

A running QB will kill a blitzing team. Anyone remember why we couldn't beat the Titans in '99? We beat every other team easily except them because they had McNair. McNair would escape the blitz and pick up the 1st down.

In the Giants game he should have stopped blitzing the inside LBs and put them in zone or even had one spy Jones. If the ILBs weren't blitzing last week the Colts wouldn't have killed us with crossing routes.

Caldwell is a liability right now.

You do know the Titans had our playbook that season, right?  Not torpedoing your argument but it wasn't the blitz that did those defenses in...

People often forget how young this team is.

Walker and Floyd are rookies, Cisco has been benched his whole rookie season, Campbell is having a pretty good season so far despite being a sophomore.

I'm not happy with guys like Josh Allen and Shaq Griffin. And I just don't understand how our pas rush can be this bad with guys like Gotsis, Key, Allen, Smoot etc....

Wilson isn't going to play this week if at all the rest of this season, so we'll probably only give up 60 yards rushing to him this week.

It's young in specific areas and it's Caldwell's first up to bat as a play caller. I think we all got our hopes up early after they had those performances against the Chargers and the clots in the home opener and then we gave them a mulligan against the Eagles because we turned the ball over four or five times offensively.

After that? It seems like they're just flat when it comes to rushing the passer and Caldwell and Co. cannot provide an answer to virtually anything that keeps working effectively against them. One week it's the passing game that gets them. The next week its the ground game that gets them.

They don't really stand out anywhere now in particular. I am in agreement with you though. I expect more out of guys like Josh Allen and Shaq Griffin. They have been relatively non factors to this point. I think the pass rush is missing something up front. Whether that's a lack of scheming guys into free lanes or running stunts inside or outside, it's just simply not there.

I brought it up yesterday in a separate thread. This pass rush has been as flat as that defense from 2009. Now, do I think they'll finish a 17 game season with just 14 sacks on the year? No. But, at this current pace? I think they'll be lucky to hit 20 as a team. That's rough. Especially with the cap space primarily tied up over there on that side of the football.

After all so far, every game has been winnable. Hopefully the jags can win some game and see how things shake out in a few weeks. One game at a time.

Doesn't mean much. They have been bullied over there before. I think the Cowboys and 49ers demolished us over there. Again, this year we have seen a lot of "firsts" when it comes to odd statistics and old records being broken or matched. We did it two weeks in a row.

Lawrence is now the only QB to be 20/22 in a loss or something crazy from 100 years ago and then this Daniel Jones rushing statistic was just broken or set from a previous record that goes back to damn near the WWII era or just after it.

This defense has been historically bad at the worst times. Even if the game is tied up going into the 4th quarter? I don't trust this defense to get the ball back or get off the field on 3rd down anymore.

Until they prove it. I ain't moving my position on them. Don't care if it's Rypien or Wilson at QB. Somehow, someway, they'll figure out a way to [BLEEP] this up.

Poor in game adjustments.  I mean POOR.

It can't just be the players on the field.  Commanders, Texans, Colts, Broncos...  we're not talking about lights out offenses here.  They're almost all bottom of the league in offensive stats.

Trevor is a problem, but this defense is a MUCH bigger problem.  We can move the ball...but we can't stop teams when we need to. Tackling by the back 7 is also atrocious.

Currently, Tom Brady could drive against this team to score a game winning TD, and Tom Brady sucks this season.

Doug has failed as a coach up to this point as well. Throws it on 1st and 1 again and said it was the right call while your RB has almost 100 yards in the first half, lmao
