Robinson to the Jets
|
Man, some people are taking the JRob trade almost personal.
My guess is he’s out of the league in two or three years. He’s already banged up and degraded. The Jets will get some use out of him this season. Will he be a FA at the end of the season? If so, another team might pick him up but he won’t be a big yardage producer. We got the best out of him in his prime but he’s on the downhill slide now. So many people on here preach "BAP", "BAP", "BAP", but this shows where ignoring the need factor can cost you. Even with most coaches, it was going to be hard to give both ETN and JRob the carries worthy of their talents. As such, one was inevitably going to get upset and the team would have to trade him for pennies on the dollar. It's a complete waste. We should have been fine with JRob as our running back and drafted one of many other very quality players that were available at other positions. This team has no shortage of holes. Our team would be much better off for it now. Baalke is a clown.I disagree with this, you always go BPA. Most coaches in this league would of been able to make both work. It's not that hard , look at the Browns and Cowboys. He'll we did it with MJD and Freddy. JRob is a very good back but Etienne is an elite back. Any time you can get an elite player at any position you get him. I loved the Etieene pick but there where 2 players I wanted over him. With that said I would take Campbell and Etieene over both of the guys I wanted, Barmore and Moore. Who did you want at 25 and 33? It's BPA unless you're loaded at a certain position. If the BPA is a RB in each round, you're taking them? Or are you pivoting to a position you need more but might have a slightly less grade? It's not "Always".
I'm of the opinion that he must have asked to be traded when his workload was taken. You know, disrespect and all that.
Go back to the Philly game at the end of the first half. Jags get the ball back with about 20-30 seconds left in the half I believe with a couple of times out remaining. They commence the series by running JRob up the gut for a couple of yards then he gets converged on by four defenders and pummeled. The next play they kneel it and let the clock run out. I'm not positive but I think that might have been the straw that broke the camels back. Seems he hasn't been featured as much since that play? I still value his talent for the next 10 games over any chance of a win with that pick .

Now we’re complaining because we made him the clear #1. A 6th, maybe a 5th, for a UDFA coming off of a major injury. Whatever. If JRob in his prime is 25 yards a game, we made out like bandits in this deal. I doubt Tawmy in his prime was throwing for 75 yds a game, but I ain't hit the googles to verify. I don't understand how everyone else has been blind to this. Playing that same game let's discount JRob's best run, then. 7 games, 290 yds rushing - You really fretting over 40 yards a week and two TDs all season? You can't take away the 61 yard carry. It's case and point why we did what we did. He hit the hole, and outran everyone to the EZ. Compare him to JRob, who's quicker? Who fits better in the playbook that Doug is running? JRob's utilization has been trending downward over the past few weeks. While the move was significant, I can't say it was a shocker. JRob didn't sound happy with limited play time on Sunday. You don't think that frustration would continue to mount as the season dragged on? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! If he was being phased out of the offense, though, it might be a better gesture to send him where he can be utilized, get his stats, and get a nice second deal. If he ends the season with us and has 600 yards on 200 carries, he'll get a deal, but probably not his choice of landing spots. If NYJ makes him their feature back and he breaks 1K, he probably gets some nicer offers. He was not going to get those touches on this team, barring a prolonged injury to Etienne. If JDR were still coaching this team, he'd have been a perfect fit for his offense. Doug ain't JDR.
Nice move for Jets, 6/5th round pick for JRob and no ties to him next year.
Wonder if jets contacted Rams about Akers? Guess they were asking too much

Not sure how I feel about this. Some of you have made excellent points. Being a UFA makes it easy to pull for him, and his success for us in the past makes it easy to feel loyal to him. But he is coming off an year long tough injury and reportedly has a knee injury. And business is business in the NFL. I hope he does well for the Jets, just not against us.

He had one very nice run where he got very good blocking, but otherwise has done next to nothing in the running game. He has 4 rushing attempts for 8 yards or a 2.0 yards per carry average with the Jaguars. Yeah. We're discounting the fact that perhaps the trade was requested.... not that I think it was necessarily but maybe JRob didn't want to be second fiddle. There were 3 games this year where Doug utilized JR thoughtfully and he produced good YPC and a few TDs (even after this achilles injury folks are making too much fuss about) Regardless, I'm not in the building and I don't know every factor that contributed to this decision. I'm going to assume there's more to it than what I'm able to glean. It just feels like scheme was the predominant factor, and I'm not a fan of those types of roster moves on the offensive side of the ball unless it's OL. Gotta use what you've got - especially when they show talent.

I love JRob.
JRob doesn't fit this scheme. I wish we'd tweaked the scheme to fit his talents because we'd have more wins today. I hope he plays well in New York and gets a second deal somewhere nice. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Why do I just know we will lose to the Jets and a big reason why will be JRob?
To add insult to injury, wait until JRob gets his first game check and sees how much New York takes.

Gonna have to take a loan out to pay the bills on that current salary. Maybe his girl will keep getting gig work. He should probably leave her here though. Jags made a mistake. I do not think Travis is going to make it as a RB 1 due to his build.

Maybe Duane Reade (Walgreens) will offer her a promo gig in NYC. I changed my mind about ETN and what looks to be his slight build after seeing his toughness over the last few games. Early on, I thought he would get snapped in half like a twig. What we don't know about yet is his longevity over what is essentially his rookie season. As he gets closer to the rookie wall, will he be more susceptible to injury from the hits piling up? If that happens, and Conner or Hasty can't fill the void, then the JRob release is going to look bad indeed.
