Jags trade for Calvin Ridley

It's not the Snoop Conner pick that I had an issue with to be exact. It was the whole approach.

They traded up for Lloyd when they could have stayed put and drafted Pickens.  Then they could have used that 4th rounder they used in the trade up to draft Pierce if they really wanted a RB. I would have drafted at least 2 WRs from this draft. Pickens was my target from the jump in round 2 if he was there. Then, in the later rounds, I would have tried to get Shakir or a TE like Likely or Chigo.

My approach to this off season would have been to give Trevor as much speed and playmakers as possible.

Imagine rolling into next season with Kirk, Pickens, Ridley, Engram, Likely, ETN and Pierce..... Kid can dream I guess.

Ok, fair enough.  I misunderstood where you were going with that.

I wanted WRs, too.  I was the outlier saying (for most of the off season) we should draft the best WR with our #1 pick, especially if we could trade down from 1st overall.  Plus, I coveted taking one of the best TEs in the draft.  As it turns out, I loved our two 1st round picks and still do.  I would have preferred to go WR and TE with next 2 picks, even if we had to trade away the rest of the draft. Dulcich and Pierce were the ones I wanted. (Although, I'm always banging the drum for OL.)

Nah.... draft corner....pick up another WR in free agency... listing to 1010xl the other morning and they explained it pretty well...and I'm sold... Lot of good corners to pick from next year not so much wide receivers

As much as I liked Pickens, he had a lot of red flags with health and off the field red flags. There was a reason he fell to the 2nd. These same people that say they wanted him would of bashed Baalke if he gotten in trouble or hurt again. With that said, Pickens has only 29 more yards than Zay and the same amount of TDs lol.

Lloyd and Oluokon and Muma are redundant.

I think Lloyd is a really good player. I would have been thrilled if we would have traded the pick we took Muma + some to move back into the late 40's early 50's to draft Pickens too tho.

This is a lesson to those who at draft time say "BAP", "BAP", "BAP".  Through 8 games, Muma has 2 solo tackles, 5 assists and obviously zero sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, etc.  What good is value if the player sits on the bench?

My only question for those who favor taking a wide receiver first is what is your plan for cornerback?  Keep Griffin despite the $13 million in savings we would get from cutting him?  Wait for the second round?  What if no one good is available?  Reach?  Start Claybrooks?  That's like playing with 10 players on the field.  Are you assuming we sign  a free agent cornerback?

Williams and Campbell can man the outside. Starting caliber slot corners can be found in the middle rounds.

I believe our draft is going to go something like this.

rnd 1 WR
rnd 2 IDL
Rnd 3 SCB

Now, if there is some insane CB prospect that is "Can't Miss" I'd take them over a WR, because I think Ridley will be the #1 regardless. If there is no such guy at CB coming out, then give me the WR to go opposite Ridley.

As Vic used to say, it's good to have "jars on the shelf". Young quality backups end up frequently becoming quality veteran starters.

Player development is a thing

I know we've been completely devoid of it around here for years, but it's OK to do some things like a winning team occasionally.

Oluokun is on a 3 year deal with a 2 year out-clause. He's probably gone in 2024.

Whether it is injury or salary cap issues that force Oluokun to walk - Muma will be needed. You aren't going to get immediate impact from every rookie in your draft class. Judging from his preseason play, Muma could use the time to acclimate anyway IMO.

If you think Lloyd got eaten up for a few weeks in underneath coverage, you may actually be glad it wasn't Muma out there with him in those moments.

Whether Caldwell finally enacts this money backer position, or gets Muma involved in some sub-packages another way, or we wait until 2024 for the kid to be a full time starter, his time will come.

Also - After watching a back-up LB corps get decimated in the run game to end each of the past three seasons - I'm good with having depth right now.

Depth is nice, but that's the purpose of Day 3 picks.  Day 1 and Day 2 picks are to find starters.  I can maybe understand if you are a Super Bowl caliber team and are already good at every position, but a losing teams' goal should be to find immediate starters with those picks.  In this specific case, Oluokun's contract prevents him from being cut in 2023.  There's no reason to believe Muma won't be sitting the bench again next year.  Barring injuries, 2024 is the first realistic year where he might get significant playing time.  Smart teams maximize the impact of their draft picks during their first four years while they are under rookie contracts.  After that, if the player is good, the team is going to have pay.  If a draft pick only plays 2 out of 4 years, he needs to have double the impact in those two years in order to just be even with a player who has played four years.  That's a very high standard and one that has a low chance of actually being achieved.  I have to remind people that "need" is short for "need to win".  The goal is to win.  If you need it to win, that's important.

He's a rookie who has both a high priced free agent and a guy taken two rounds before him in front of him on the depth chart. What the hell do you expect him to be doing at this point that you're so down on him?

Linebacker was one of our worst positions last season. Muma made a heck of a play on the end zone today against the Raiders. You dont see LBs turn and run like he did today very often.

I’m glad we have quality depth at LB that also offers special teams personnel. Muma runs down under kicks as well.

Lloyd and Muma will be here in 3 years. Not so sure you can say that about Foye.

They should be petitioning the Commish to let him come back early. Now that he's changed organizations they could at least get a hearing to evaluate him for a "good behavior" reduction.
