In your opinion the #1 need on the team?
|
My choice is pass Rusher. The team struggles to pressure the QB. Walker is too raw and has no pass rush moves, Allen has fallen off the map,Smoot leading the team with 5 sacks tells the tale. We have a rotational guy leading the team in sacks. Opposing QB's just look too comfortable against this team IMO.

I actually would prefer an interior defensive lineman with some legit pass rush heft than an outside rusher.
After that, either the best WR or CB. I think TE and Safety are also big needs, but Safety could be found in middle rounds, and TE is probably better found in FA/trade. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
The OP has said pass rusher. Others might say interior D-Line that can provide pressure up the middle. Another, a man coverage corner. Still yet another, a big playmaking outside receiver. So who is correct?
They all are
We need studs at Pass Rush and WR. I just don't know what the heck our curse is but we can't seem to hit a homerun with these two positions in the last decade+

Interior DL, then Edge, then CB. Honestly these are all interchangeable to me with the IDL being slightly higher need IMO
I would have said WR before the Ridley trade

I'm sticking with CB. We've seen us lose 3 games in the closing minutes when a CB got beat deep. For sure, we should draft the best player available among pass rusher, wide receiver, or CB, but if all the players grade out about the same, I'd take CB.
As far as WR, we just picked up a potentially dominant WR (for next year) in a trade. And Travon Walker will probably get better as a pass rusher. But is there a potentially dominant CB on our roster? No. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
For this year and going into next year. I would say it's this in this particular order.
1. Pass Rusher - Don't care if it's from the DE, NT or OLB position. We just simply need it from somewhere that's consistent and effective on 3rd downs. This front three, four has been awful to watch at times and it's truly been frustrating in critical moments of the game. 2. Pass Catcher - Even with Ridley in the mix next year. We're still losing Marvin Jones and we're looking at the entire TE group potentially gone. Need to double down at both positions next year. 3. Cover Corner - Griffin should be out of here next year. Even with Darious Williams potentially mirroring Tyson Campbell next year or going back to the slot. It leaves a hole that needs to be filled this off season. After those three needs above I would say you have to start looking at the guard positions on the offensive line. As Bartch, Shatley and Van Lanen have left a lot to be desired. Scherff is also a stop gap player and not a long term answer on his side. Need to figure out what Walker Little can do at some point this year. He may need to play guard. Potentially RT if Taylor is not resigned. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. But I'd have no concerns swapping that for a higher graded player. I'd rather a true #2 CB than another rotational DT. As for LG, Bartch was playing really well and the line regressed when he went down. Assuming he comes back from injury ok I think we're ok here besides depth. Herndon and Brown are splitting the backup CB2 role, and not doing so well at it. Also - adding a good CB that can play man and zone well will help give the pass rush more time to get home. Pass rushing DT is a nearly equal need as you suggest. I thought Bartch was very average. I'd like better than average to help a young struggling Center and to keep the LT from having to help the guard at times.
Everyone keeps saying "CB2." But if we spend a draft pick in the #8-#14 range, why not get a CB1 and have Campbell as the CB2?

Either a 3-4 End or Nose that can disrupt the middle will do wonders to help the outside rushers get their sacks. CB is going to be a need, Griffin will be gone and Herndon isn't the future at the position. If Williams can transition outside, finding a slot guy might be easier in mid rounds. I just hope we can afford to keep Engram around, that will do wonders to help the TE corps (11-08-2022, 09:24 AM)The Real Marty Wrote: Everyone keeps saying "CB2." It's just that CB2 is the current hole in the roster. The Depth Chart will sort itself in camp - just acquire the talent. I don't think looking for a lesser talent than Campbell is the right strategy, it should be getting the best CB you can get within the constraints of cap management and draft capital distribution/strategy. If that guy turns out to be a bona-fide lockdown #1 , great. If he turns out to be behind Campbell on the depth chart but better than the current options behind Campbell, also great.

I'd say if we spend a pick in the top half of the draft on a CB, and he's not better than Campbell, we made the wrong pick. |
