If next season hinges on the performances of the rookies on the team, then that season will be a complete and utter failure once again.

They need to be a nice part.  That's how you build a great team, through the draft.

The pieces are already on the team.

I swear the Jags would be 7-3 if they could just play disciplined ball with half the mistakes. The talent is there, the execution isn't. We could have beat one of the best teams in the league yesterday if we didn't play dumb.

I can't even blame Doug. I'm sure he draws it up well, runs the practices well, and the players just screw it up 1 out of every 5 plays instead of 1 out of 10.

Ive told people the same thing when they make fun of the Jags. We hung with the Eagles, even after giving them the ball 5 times. We were a hair from beating the Giants...I dont think we could win the super bowl...but I think we are middle of the pack team.

The Texans and Colts game killed us. If we could just have those 2 back.

our pro football QB has been putting that touch on the ball for 1.5 seasons, just some were focusing on the other mess around him.

the worst thing is we are losing close, losing big is easier to deal with than losing close. it hurts more.

KC we left 10 points on the board. possible 13 to 17 if Kirk catches that bomb.
5 games the defense faltered at the worst time.

so we could easily have 6 or 7 wins. at min. 5.

Oh, I agree completely that our best players need to come from the draft.  However, if we are expecting, or even worse, needing, our best players to be drafted rookies, then we still very much suck.

By my estimation, they'll need at least 2 rookies to come in and start well enough to hold up their end.
Maybe 3.

Success may not necessarily "hinge" on their performance, but they'll need the kids to at least not suck.
Which positions they address via draft and alternately by free agency will have an effect on how the rookies may or may not be integral to success.

The rest of the holes to fill can conceivably come from free agency if they manage the cap situation well.

I didnt say they need to be our best players.  That needs to be the QB and the RB imo.  But they need to play a decent part being we will likely be picking in the top 5 again.  A 4 or 5 win team needs big help from their rookies to make the next step.
Look at Sea. for example, they wouldnt be no where close to where theyre at this year with out their great rookie class, the got 2 starting tackles playing at a pretty high level and a corner that is already one of the best in the league.  Same with the Jets, they wouldnt have the record they have without that really good rookie class.  We have to hit on these picks if we want to continue a step in the right direction.

I would certainly love to see them have a rookie draft class that takes off right from the start.  It's not something I'm ever personally counting on though.  They definitely need to contribute and show flashes that at least some of them will be long term fixtures.
It would be nice to have a couple guys competing for ROY honors for sure.  But it's usually year 2 and 3 from any draft class before we can truly start passing judgment on them though.
I'm all for catching lightning in a bottle for once though, so count me in Smile

It would be nice to start to see the team turning the corner after the bye week.

hwut

so you'd prefer that we *weren't* competitive? When we look like a baboon's backside out there I want heads to roll. We lose by 10 to one of the best teams in the league, and lose by less than that to probably the best team this season while committing 5 TO? I'm at least encouraged to understand that if we iron out a few wrinkles, those could end up wins as we mature.

thanks for the chuckle.

Right?! Give me this season being competitive and losing close games over the [BLEEP] show being beast down week in and week out that we've grown used to the past couple years all day every day.

PFF re-ranking the top QBs in the 2021 draft.

1. Trevor Lawrence

"...he’s starting to look like the franchise quarterback that was promised in the draft."

In the message board mock draft, I had the Jets and took Fields.

Imagine Fields on this Jets team. Zach Wilson is what's holding them back.

For the non-knee-jerkers who have seen QBs come and go in this league for years - this conversation about Lawrence showing the goods began after the bengals match up in 2021.

He's been putting good stuff on tape quite a bit going back that far. It's consistency we are waiting for.

It's coming around too.

Folks are mostly just impatient and insanely quick to judge. And of course, some others just wouldn't know a good quarterback if it jumped out of a hole in the ground and bit them in the [BLEEP].

Indeed. This time last year I wasn't watching any games. Barely kept up with anything other than big news like Meyer finally being fired etc. Wasn't even paying attention go the NFL or fantasy I was so done and apathetic.

This year I watch every game and in almost e ery game we've had a chance to win. No one expected a lot of wins this year, I think after the 2-1 start some of us might have drank too much Kool aid but seeing what we are now a solid 6-7 win year would be an enjoyable season with how these games have played out

Then I'm glad they didn't. We can wait until the SB to beat Fields in the postseason.

Not no one lol

Go check that record predictions thread. Some were saying 10 or more wins.
