Gus Bradley: The Closer

Quote:A closer would have got Revis Island in a Jaguars uniform.  Jags can't even lure somebody like Alex Mack, a center position that needs to be filled.

I don't think what we've seen so far indicates anything about Gus Bradley's quality of a coach in either direction. I don't think the team is ready to try to get the "over the hump" guy.

I just think the declaration is premature at this point.

Quote:Yea but what team signed "that Top level FA" and then went on to win the SB? Seattle didn't, Ravens didn't, Giants didnt, Packers didn't, Steelers didnt, Pats didn't....

Raven did - didn't they add some high profile LB  years ago, used as a pass rusher?.... name escapes me...

Pats are always adding high profile FA and making trades like the Corey Dillon deal that helped their success

Green Bay signed Reggie White then later went on to win a SB.

Steelers rarely sign big time FA, agreed

Seattle?....unsure.

Giants? I dunno....I thought I remember a big name CB signing with them at some point, but could be wrong...

Quote:Yea for a ridiculous amount of money. 1 yr for 13 mill.... get outta here. Pats are consistently in it because of the QB. Same with a lot of teams. You don't need to spend big money unless its on your QB.

We need a high level QB more than we need to pay Revis 13 mill or Byrd 50 mill.

Also, the goal is to always win the SB.

Yeah but you asked which team has signed a high profile guy... the Pats just did lol.

And the goal is to make the playoffs, btw. Teams that shoot for the Superbowl usually blow themselves up.

Was listening to Toby Gerhart on the radio last night on Frangie's show...  He said he signed his offer sheet before ever meeting or speaking with Gus and Dave.

Dude he asked if any of those teams signed a high profile FA. The pats did lol.

Well, the Jags also could offer him something other than money (and other than "The Closer") that I am sure he wanted -

A good chance to start.

Don't underestimate that factor.

No the Ravens didn't.

Corey Dillon? Stop reachin

Not the old GB teams, most recent GB team.

Steelers do it the right way.

Seattle signed Sidney Rice for a lot... that worked out well......

Giants drafted very well.

You're reachin....

Quote:Decker? lol

Decker, yeah. The 6'3", 220 lb WR who can go deep and over the middle of the field with success. He got a similar deal to Beadles. Which would you rather have? I'll take the hard to find WR, not the average G.

Yea thats what i asked... but it was followed up by "Then went on to win the SB"... which is still unclear.

Door is definitely wide open for him to assume that role.  From what little I saw of him, he flashed.  Hopefully he can be a solid starter.

This is arguably one of the dumbest positions I've seen in this thread.

The Patriots just spent a boatload of money to get Revis for 1 year.  There was zero need for the Jaguars to throw down $13 million for his services.

As far as Mack is concerned, we have no idea where things stand with that situation.  That has been addressed by the GM because there's more to that situation than just offering him a deal.  There are a couple of teams in the mix, and Jacksonville is still one of those who are interested in landing him.

Once the Jags are able to make a move like the Pats just made with Revis, then we can start to have legitimacy in labeling Bradley "The Closer".  I'm sure the line of teams that would have loved to have added Revis as a FA went for a while. Not only did Revis choose the Pats, but they got it done very quickly. There was no using them for leverage.

Until then, when you are talking little moves like the ones we have been making, its just seems silly to use that (Closer) connotation.

Maybe it will happen. Premature to assume it already has.

Ravens added Dominique Foxworth in 09 for 4 yes, 28 mil. Busted, but they did sign him and he was one of the top FA corners available.

But the Revis deal is awful.....

Lots of people are praising what the Jags are doing and I like it so far. Will it turn out well? Who knows but I like it so far.

Dude I'm not arguing that we should be signing high profile guys. I'm saying that signibg mid tier FAs does not make Bradley a "closer", especially with so much opportunity to start.

The only player I would have given big money go was Decker.

Signing a player to a 1 year, $13 million deal is ridiculous, but that's all you've got since the only thing that matters to you in the FA acquisition process is a name you recognize.

Dude, relax.

The team has gotten so much better in the span of like two days. And they aren't done. They will sign more guys and have 11 picks in the draft. Eleven!! You should be enjoying this if you are really a fan of this team.
