If diversity also occurs because of this, then so much the better. But in general, checking diversity boxes isn't making our society more competent, it's doing the opposite, at least in the short term.

The point, on the hiring end, is to make sure you are recruiting all of the qualified people from all minority groups. And on the school end, to make sure that kids from minority groups that historically don't seek certain jobs know that there are opportunities in that field even if there aren't, at the moment, many people who look like them in that field yet.
But no one actually thinks you should lower your standards or pass over better candidates just to get a minority hire.

So, you are saying that if I happen to be a really talented white basketball player, that I'm not going to have the drive to become what I'm good at because I don't see many white players in the NBA? Really? People who know what they are gifted to be good at and are driven to become that are going to overcome the obstacles. Ben Carson comes to mind here.

Being good at sports requires a competitive personality that seems to be innate to some members of all races. Most jobs are not like sports. Being a good airline pilot does not at all require a competitive personality.

Yup. Just requires and innate drive to be good at your job, and only white people have that, right Mikey?

It requires a person to believe, preferably during their teenage years, that they will be able to do it if they put in the time and effort. It requires them to either have the money to pay for an instructor, av gas, and rental fees, or for someone else to pay for all of it, or for them to believe that they'll be able to pay off the loan they take out to do it.

Please explain how you can simultaneously be arguing that children can't aspire to certain professions without examples that look like them in that field AND that businesses can't pass over better candidates to get a minority. Where are these businesses getting the minorities that will set the example if the minorities aren't applying for those fields because they don't have any examples?

As I already said, we should tell the young Black students that it is an attainable goal for them in spite of the fact that there aren't many Black adults in that role today. All it takes is some deliberate words from teacher to student. At no point did I say unqualified or less qualified people should be hired.

It's the freaking truth...... The government today, wants total control of our lives....... Our Founding Fathers warned us about this, but very few people are listening today.......

Now there's a film that would cause quite a few heads to explode if it were re-released today.

Half of them probably thought it was an immolation re-enactment as part of Indian (dots not feathers) Culture Week. Plus they look more like they are flogging the guy than trying to put him out. Bonus points to anyone who can name the movie that has the 'dots not feathers' line in it.
