Knowshon Moreno & Brian De La Puente
|
Knowshon Moreno is still out there. He hasn't received much interest it seems. It is being said that he would be best in a good tandem.
Why not go ahead and try to sign him to a relatively cheap 2-year deal? I know we have Todman, but I think Moreno would pair great with Gerhart as a nice one-two punch. He can catch out of the backfield really well, and he knows how to find the endzone. I don't trust Robinson as anything but a gimmick once in a while at this point. 2014 RB corps would be - 1.Gerhart 2. Moreno 3. Todman 4. Robinson 5. FB ? De La Puente would solve our problems at OC for the next two or three years, and we wouldn't have to depend on a rookie possibly snapping to a rookie QB and providing crucial protection in the middle that we have lacked recently. De La Puente was listed as the #2 FA Center prospect behind Alex Mack, and would be much cheaper. With these two moves, I'd give our Free Agency a B+. We could really concentrate on QB(x2), WR, OG and TE in the draft, while having the freedom to package a bunch of picks and move up a couple of times if Caldwell wanted. Totally agree on a center. Knowshon? Not sure. Maybe the team is waiting to resign Mojo... Maybe I'm crazy but him and Toby would wear down defenses, and push each other. But back to center, a rookie in arguably the most important position on the O line doesn't sound good...especially if they want to start a rookie QB.

Said it a couple times before in other treads but I would love to sign De La Puente.
De La Puente would be a worthwhile pursuit. He's not a great center, but he could hold the position for a couple of years while a rookie is brought along. I'm not so hot on Moreno. Before this year, he was considered a total bust. There was actually talk in Denver that he wouldn't even make the team out of camp. A player who does nothing his entire career then goes off in a contract season is a hard player to write a big check for.
Moreno was always in the dog house or hurt or fumbling before Manning came along. Crazy that he now is putting up good numbers. He benefits entirely from Manning playing at an MVP level. He would do horrible here. Rather see Robinson get more attention

Nope for Knowshon but a yes for the Center.
That said ths year is pretty good for centers in the draft and i like the idea of drafting a guy and plugging him in at the center spot for the longterm.

That was one of the points about my idea to pair him with Gerhart. He has not made any visits, and it has now been established that the RB's aren't going to garner big contracts. A 2-year deal for about $4M would not break the bank. I personally would rather have Moreno as the #2 back over Todman or MJD. He's never had less than 700 yards and 5 TD's in the 3 seasons he has been healthy. He missed time in 2011 and 2012 with injuries.
De La Puente makes sense. Knowshon is benefiting from the Manning effect, and will fade back to bust-dom unless he latches on to another team with a high caliber passing attack.

I don't see the Saints in any big hurry to re-sign him The Jags don't need to be signing players just for the sake of filling positions. The idea is to upgrade with quality. I think the team is sitting on things waiting to see what happens with MJD. He's getting no play in free agency, so the price tag is going to be shrinking. I'm sure there's a price point where the Jags will throw an offer out there. As far as De La Puente is concerned, the longer he sits out there, the cheaper he'd be to land. He was one of two centers in free agency worth pursuing. The other is gone to Tampa. If the team wants to plug that hole in free agency, he's the most logical choice. He's not getting a ton of play in free agency after a week, so it might be time to look at bringing him in for a visit if there is any interest. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
