Doug Pederson's Son to be signed by NFL team? (Jags?)
|
Now we know why they added the kid.
The #6 TE on the roster was injured. https://twitter.com/Jaguars/status/16784...69353?s=20 We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! One was 35 years old and had never played the position before. The other is 25 years old and has played the position before. Although I know that's too much for your little pea brain to comprehend... Either way, It's a long shot for Doug's son to even make the practice squad, let alone the 53 man roster.
My goodness, I cannot wait till there is something going on that makes more sense to get upset about.

Let me explain it for you in a simple, clear way. That 35 year old with 1-2 years of practice is probably a lot better than the 25 year old will be. In the end it doesn't matter as the 90th or 85th, whatever the last roster spot is at this time of year is, won't be making the roster and let him and his dad have a good family moment in a preseason game. He could not block. He was getting running backs blown up in the backfield. Additionally my grandma could cover him.

So you are honestly saying that no other teams scout the USFL or XFL or CFL for players? If anything, it puts MORE pressure on the kid, and on the coach. The kid is going to have to prove his mettle to show that it's more than his surname that got him a look. The coach is going to have to be sure he treats his kid just like any other player to avoid allegation of favoritism. How do you not understand that this is more risky than just hoping he gets picked up by the tinhorns or some other squad that is equally trying to find players before the season begins? I like how you continually overlook any of the relevant performance information that might justify him getting this chance. It's not like we cut a healthy player to make room for him, but I have a feeling any justification anyone here offers will fall on deaf ears anyhow. You've made up your mind. If you could not care less (SWIDT?) you wouldn't bother posting your angst. (07-10-2023, 05:11 PM)OzJohnnie Wrote:(07-10-2023, 03:02 PM)homebiscuit Wrote: This is amusing. The harder you work to make it seem like being the coaches son has nothing to do with him turning up at the Jags instead of any other NFL team (who have no idea who he is), the more you dig the hole. /pushes glasses up nose technically, he's ahead of Taylor already, who was waived/injured to make room for him. //crawls back into locker (07-10-2023, 05:34 PM)OzJohnnie Wrote:(07-10-2023, 05:12 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: Meh Tebow had comparable stats at TE in NCAA, CFL, USFL, or any other startup league? Teebs had ZERO JUSTIFICATION for getting a look, which did have several of us, who were already voicing concerns over the ineptitude of the coach at the time, quite vocally opposed. Teebs got his look. Teebs failed miserably performed exactly as most of us expected, based on his experience at the position. Teebs was sent packing. Everyone moved on. Okay, maybe not that last bit, as we've seen from your recent posts. That's what you don't get. This isn't apples to apples. JP has spent his career playing at the position we signed him to play, and has proven that he can do so, at the level one would expect of a bottom of the roster signing. There's at least SOME reason why any coach could defend signing this kid to a deal to see if he's ready for the big league. What justification was there with Teebs? OK, since you are so up in arms over this one player, which TE would you have brought in? I mean, you seem to know that there are plenty of other capable TE out there who missed an opportunity because the coach had to bring his kid to work. So you are saying a 37 year old TE is where you want to invest time and money developing? One thing is for certain, if we embraced that development strategy we'd be able to have our pick of the players available. Ain't nobody else that daft.

As much as I want to jump in with sarcastic comments, the truth of the matter is that I don't care if Pederson signs his son, and even takes in 3 foster kids and signs them to the roster, as long as he continues to be one of the best coaches in the NFL. He's by far the best coach that the Jags have had since Coughlin !!

I might be concerned if Doug hadn't had success and won a super bowl in this league. That's earned him a pass on this. /thread
