Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Draft Caleb Williams? Or trade that pick for the farm?

Wouldn't want Caleb even if we didn't have Trevor. Drama queen won't be the player he thinks (or his dad thinks) he will be.

I would vote to trade the pick for the farm, but the drama is still gonna be fantastic.

At least we don’t have Justin Fields.

Orrr you could respond about the actual content of the post.

Guys, I haven’t seen anyone say let’s throw Trevor to the wolves or cut him. Or even that he can’t be great. Just that he’s not great yet, and he needs to improve.  So do a lot of other position groups. We have to give him time and build around him. I think the offensive line isn’t good enough. But Trevor is not above criticism. Nobody is.

It’s not empty of honest criticism. It’s just drown out by the excuse makers.

On the plus side:

* A magic rocket arm

On the negative:

* Poor anticipation - waits for players to get open, relying on his rocket arm to make up time.
* Doesn't set his feet properly - relying on his magic arm to make the throw regardless.
* Flushes from the pocket when he should step up (which he suddenly started doing in the last game and a half)

I'll just bookmark this for posterity.

Still bookmarked.

Trevor looks like a first read QB and after that he either throws incompletions or gets sacked

He's not, but that's all the line is giving him time for

We have two posters in this very thread doing just that; one calling him a bust the other praising Minshew and saying we would be better off; and yes when they only come to this thread to post only after off games and not at all after his numerous good performances, yes they are a troll. Especially the Minshew guy. That’s all he posts about

I’m just stirring the pot. Might as well get some kind of entertainment out of that train wreck today.

Well idk if you noticed but in his 2 years in the league has has mostly bad games over good. There was a 8-9 game stretch he was good, with a couple top tier games sprinkled in that stretch. The rest has been awful. This is year three, this is where the jump is supposed to happen with QBs, this is why the hype was so incredible coming into this season. The reality is, Trevor just isn't that good right now. If he continues down this road, he will most certainly be a bust and if this team had a competent front office, would look at options @ QB.  Everyone can complain about the line until they're blue in the face, top flight QBs evade pressure, buy time, and make plays when nothing is there initially. Trevor simply is not doing that right now. A lot of staring down receivers and not reading the defense, or taking what they are giving him. You will not survive in this league playing like he has for the majority of his career.

I’m a Trevor fan and I want him to succeed, but this has been a rough start to year 3. I hope he can pick it up from here.

I don’t see that at all. He isn’t staring down receivers and is taking what the defense gives him … he completed 68% of his passes with several critical drops including one on the first drive for a touchdown which would have made it 70%. had a key 4th down conversion negated by dumb penalty and drove it inside the 20 but it was negated by a fumble.

started the second half on fire as well.

only bad decision was the pick but other than that I thought he was one of our few bright spots on the team.. I thought Engram and Etienne also played really well.

Year three is where Herbert Allen burrow etc showed they are here to stay for the long term as perennial contenders. Unfortunately instead of improving upon year 2 Trevor seems to have regressed a bit. Still way too early but quality QBs score a lot of points. 26 in the last two games is really bad

All of these guys you named above regressed a bit. Herbert was a bad Kirk Cousins pass away from being 0 - 3 today. Allen is hit or miss most of the time.

This is the same guy that got beat by us with a rookie Lawrence and bum coaching staff in Meyer. Burrow has fallen off a cliff here after getting a massive contract.

Also, those guys were entering year three with the same coaching staff. This is year two for Lawrence with Pederson. It's a little bit different. Again, I think Lawrence was far from perfect today but again, [BLEEP], man, when your receiver drops a TD, a 3rd down conversion in enemy territory, another fumble in enemy territory and a critical 4th down conversion taken away from your highest paid, veteran, "all pro" lineman?

What more do you want the [BLEEP] kid to do?

I think he wants a new contract before he is one step closer to getting hurt behind a terrible o'line.

God, I miss Cam.
