But he said it with conviction. We have to face the possibility that this coach and front office suck at evaluating O line. I’d take odds that they resign Cam going forward AND don’t significantly address C/G in the offseason. Nah - Doug just doesn't throw players under the bus at pressers. They know LG and C have been giving up pressure - and getting manhandled in the run game. They just don't have an answer so they aren't going to demoralize the guys getting whipped out there. If he really thinks Fortner is fine - we have a problem. I don't think he believes that at all. They wouldn't have yanked Bartch and put in the equally bad Shatley if they didn't see it. And if they see it at LG , they see it at Center. They are hoping sliding a tackle to LG will bolster Fortner enough to make a difference. Can't bash the 2nd year center before exhausting all efforts to help him , and even then, Pederson is a bit too classy for that usually. We show less advertisements to registered users. Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude. Next season I want him gone.

No he could not. with all the attention the OL is garnering anything else would have been blown out of proportion by the media. Who knows by some others as well.

I could have gotten out of bed this morning on the left side by the window instead of the right side by the nightstand. *shrug* Do you actually think Pederson believes Fortner is playing well? I'll remind you that his PFF grade through the first 3 weeks was a whopping 45.4 (top centers grading in the 80's) Week 4 he clawed his way to 53.8
Anyone can post things on the Internet. I found this on Reddit and it shows our line to be below average but not really terrible compared to some other teams.

That's a pretty good combo of three different sites pass pro metrics - until you read the fine print where he states that he gave PFF and SIS 40% each and only weighed the ESPN rating 20% into his composite. Of course ESPN had the lowest rating on us of the three. Anyway - being the 21st ranked pass pro line is bad no mater how you slice it. I'd wager 25-28 range to be more accurate, but whatever. Did you see his run block composite? We are 31st. The thing people are NOT getting from looking at these grades is that they are accumulated over 4 weeks. If each week you have two or three linemen trending up with good scores, and each week you have two or three linemen trending way down and getting beaten frequently - you can't see that on a 1-32 ranking graphic. Those 2 or 3 guys getting beaten each week are affecting the passing game more negatively than any aggregate of 5 individual scores over 4 weeks of games can illustrate. This interior line sucks.
I never even noticed the run block. That one is pretty terrible.
For pass pro I still think we're bad , but not terrible. I agree the interior line sucks but I honestly don't have too much to say about our tackles. Anyway, wouldn't these scores mean that the run game is more affected by the o-line's troubles? Why are we then using Etienne the way we do? (10-04-2023, 04:21 PM)CanDoBetter Wrote: I never even noticed the run block. That one is pretty terrible. If there is one gripe I legit have with the new play caller it is his desire to run between the tackles. Doesn't make sense. I guess he doesn't trust his guards to pull right now. (Scherff is playing through ankle injury and LG has been an utter [BLEEP] show) The run strategy needs to be adjusted and quick. Whatever smoke and mirrors they can find - they need to McGyver some [BLEEP] together with duct tape, zip ties and that those old cans of solvent in the tool shed.
When you run 1 or 2 run plays on almost every 1st down, it's going to be hard to have a highly rated OL.

The Jags put Little and Harrison out on an island quite a bit.

If they line up with TEs, a toss should work. Run off the Ts and cut inside/outside based on the defenders.
