Fan Reaction To Loss Of Steve Smith

#41

Quote:Yep. What I took away from the video is that the father seems to be a real jerk to purposefully make his young child cry so he could get it on video and make his Facebook buddies lol. I personally don't enjoy seeing my children moved to tears.

And for the record I have spanked my children when the situation dictated it was necessary.

The difference between you and me is that I don't seek out opportunities on message boards to flex my machismo and perpetuate a stodgy, arrogant "the good olé days / this generation is hopeless..." attitude.

We get it. You're a grumpy, lonely person who sees very little good in society these days or life in general. It doesn't make your opinions on parenting anymore pertinent than the next guy.

Get over yourself.

Get over myself? Irony.

I agree that the dad egging on the kid to get a predicted response for the camera isn't exactly behavior I'd condone, however, as said before, doing so doesn't give the child an excuse to strike the camera like that. Apparently some of you believe it does.

As for the other....awww, feel better? I have lotsa friends. Not lonely at all. But thanks for your concern. :thanks:

Reminds me of TMD's reaction to every front office move.

No.  But when it comes to my son I don't think of my house, car, etc. as "my property"...it's family property.  The father/son/daughter relationship transcends issues regarding property.

Quote:So a whap to the bottom as discipline for bad behavior is "physical violence" to you?

I guess your idea of "discipline" is sending the kid to their room with all their toys/ cell phones/ video games/ internet. Yeah....that'll teach 'em!!! Rolleyes

"Spare the rod and spoil the child" , I think is the time tested saying...

There were people saying this exact same kind of things when i was a kid, and I'm sure it was said the generation before mine.

It's the same old crap from old people that are out of touch.

Yep, and they were correct when they said it too.

Its always the people that are enablers of bad behavior that claim other are "out of touch" for wanting to instill discipline.

Plenty of ways to discipline a child without hurting them physically.

Whapping them on the bottom is not something that will cause any serious injuries. No one is saying to punch them in the face as discipline.

Quote:While I will say that there are times and places for everything and like anything else the "spanking" as punishment shouldn't be "overused", as it has to mean something, or else the lesson is lost. But to infer that it shouldn't be in the disciplinary repitiore at all is just misguided at best. I have no doubt that some of the biggest offenders of lack of respect amongst young people are those that have not received solid discipline as a child.
I'd also like to add that most children who start fights/bully other children in school and grow up to be violent had a childhood where they were physically abused, you're not just affecting your own child/Children but potentially a lot of others depending on how bad it is. Your child looks up to you for what is right or wrong and when you hit them you're implanting it into their mind that that's how you handle somebody when they don't do what you want. The only situation I would ever spank a child is if they did something extremely bad, I don't think swatting at a camera qualifies as extremely bad behavior, the Dad shouldn't be torturing his kid like that to begin with.

Yes, but theres a difference between "physical abuse" of a child and whapping them on the behind as one form of discipline.

Seems like some of you are implying that "anything" is physical abuse.

the best discipline is the kind that football coaches use. I was a delinquent as a teen but gassers, up downs and positive reinforcement fixed that. they work far better than spanking.

His sister definitely has the better attitude of the 2, but upon rewatching and listening to her comments again, I think she was more of a Cam Newton fan before this as well, so this news wouldn't upset her anyway. I think she says something about Newton being her favorite in the beginning, right before the spaz attack of the brat.
