But you didn't listen... I appreciate that you at least conceded the point for this week. The O-Line really held up well. And honestly, it was when Scherff went out that the Line really got better and stepped up... At least that's how it looked to me. Dude was getting manhandled in the middle. But he held his own, more importantly, the rest of the Line really stepped up. Sometimes you get more out of a group when stress happens within the group. Like I said, the Line looked really good after Scherff went out. I've been down on Scherff, so I may be biased. But I still think the overall group looked much better in his absence. Addition by subtraction is a colloquialism because there is truth behind it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Trevor looked like he had more time against Indy for once, but he still seemed like he was under pressure a lot. I'll have to re-watch the game, I was watching a stream while at my nephews bday party so I didn't get to watch closely.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Yeah - starting to pick thru it now First drive - Cam Robinson fail right out of the gate Kirk was wide open on this play as the defenders let him move unchecked from the shallow zone to the safety who was playing a deep half. ![]()
Before finding more errors - I have to point out this awesome pull by Brandon Scherff
Dude had stacked up two good games the in weeks 4 and 5 after starting out on a rolled ankle before getting hurt again. Hope he's back soon. He was rounding into form. ![]()
I'm sure we were all hoping for a chance to see Taven Bryan make Luke Fortner look like an idiot, right?
No? Yeah, me either, but here it is ![]() Luke Fortner seems like he never knows what the the guards' assignments are on any given play. Leaving guys unblocked for someone else who isn't supposed to be there. Just block the [BLEEP] guy in front of you every now and then, Luke. Sheesh. We show less advertisements to registered users. The next few plays of the drive are
Good block by Fortner and Strange in the middle to give RB a crease Good pull again by Scherff (and Strange) to get RB an edge Good play action to hit ETN in flat / swing pass (2.4 seconds of pass pro even though defense is backing off in a red zone look) Run for TD between Scherff and Harrison blocks - ETN gets small and squeezes through
Next possession:
Line buys TL 2.5 seconds to throw deep to Strange, but TL forgets Strange isn't Engram and overthrows him. No pocket really, but they bought him time. Scherff helps Fortner on a four man rush and TL has time to sling it to EazyE on that one handed grab. Outside zone run foiled by CB knifing through untouched (maybe Harrison could chip him, but... good play by Defender) Inside run for a few behind Harrison and Scherff while line shifts leftward - interesting blocking scheme on that but a modest gain. Then a quick hitter shallow cross to Engram who hurdles one guy but tackled short of sticks. - The first two possessions only asked the line to hold in protection beyond 1.5 seconds 4 times in total. The rest were quick hitters, rollouts (away from interior protection), or runs. Will try to check out more drives later.
Lageman continued to voice his concerns with Fortner on the radio this morning. Said he's not playing with leverage consistently which also plays a role in getting stronger on the field and off the field. He said he thought Shatley played his best game as a LG this year. Harrison did well. Robinson did well. Hance did okay. I didn't catch his comments or hear any comments about Scherff.

I have a hard time trusting Fortner against the Steelers, 49ers, Browns and Ravens this year. All four of those teams have stout and difficult front sevens to contest with. I just don't see it in him personally. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Scherff was excellent last week and this week until the injury. Harrison finally put a good outing together. A few ugly lapses from Cam and Fortner + bad pass pro from Hance seem to be the week 5 story.

I mentioned two weeks ago how Shatley has a bad tendency to not finish his blocks. Disengages too soon on the regular. Here's a good example from Sunday's colts tilt. https://x.com/BrentASJax/status/17142845...49682?s=20 https://twitter.com/BrentASJax/status/17...49682?s=20 (10-17-2023, 12:11 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: https://twitter.com/_John_Shipley/status...36599?s=20That should be a flag. Press Taylor was asked about run blocking issues today conceded that it gets stagnant at times and says they continue to figure out what works and what doesn't as well as evaluating individual matchups.
I'd love to know what they are thinking about Fortner right about now. Good gravy I lost count of how many times I screamed "put a hat on a hat" at the replays of our interior line just letting guys through while they redirected to some other assignment. You got to at least inhibit the guy across from you before you release. Even a trunstile puts up SOME resistance...sheesh

Trevor either threw short (mental consequence of past pressure?) or had to get outta there. Usually I have sat in the lower bowl or the endzone, this game was my 2nd sitting in the upper bowl- it provides a great vantage point for seeing the deep routes... I've enjoyed it. |
