It’s truly incredible. It’s like some people forgot how bad we were with sub par qb play for years. If Trevor can’t go or has a high risk of re-injury then yeah, sit him a game. But if he’s cleared? You absolutely play him and don’t think twice about it. This is the NFL, every game matters.

Again, less than 3:30 in the game, you're in field goal range already, you're up by 14 points. That's the kind of nonsense call you see your child or grandchild do in Madden at home. Not in a real football game.

Being aggressive when it makes sense is fine. Doing it with a lead with that much time left in the game is not fine. Just like it wasn't fine when Doug rolled the dice on a 4th and 6 on our side of the football field before half time against Kanas City and gifted them points on a platter.

Situations matter.

It was a poor call for the situation.  We didn't even need to burn much clock here or get a 1st down. Just get the 3 score lead.

What's kind of disappointing is Petersen tripling down on how right the call was when being questioned.

As to that last bit, you never criticize publicly. Even if you disagree with the call, you support the guys around you who made the call, missed the block, or tried to make something out of nothing.

I expect nothing less of Doug in that moment.

Lol, I’m waiting for someone to suggest benching him because he’s going to end up ruining our draft position. It’s that crazy sometimes.

The call was fine. If he’d called a run between the tackles and ETN had blown out his knee you’d be saying they should have dropped back and attempted a pass. Fans are gonna fan.

I think we've been over this, the wise fan would understand that's the safe call to make, and fan that fans is gonna call out the lineman who missed a block or the tackler who wrenched on the leg to make the stop or the groundskeeper who left the grass a shade too long.

It’s fine to be critical of the staff when they deserve it. I have been in the past. The situation where the colts had scored twice within a 6 minute span and appeared to have all the momentum is not the time to put in your backups. If they had and the field goal had been blocked, there’d be criticism the other way.

It worked out.

The whole they had all the momentum is poppycock.

They got the ball with just under 5 minutes left in the game and did this:

incomplete short right
RRH/Walker sack -9 yards
pittman 2 yd catch
incomplete deep
turnover on downs at their own 19, 1:21 clock expended.

Either we were doing OK in coverage, Minshew wanted to give us the win out of charity, or the previous series were not nearly as contested.

Is there a fantastic guard that can be had early?

Funny sketch!

I see lots of opinions being floated on this though.
  • Press should never have called the play
  • Trevor should have checked out of it after seeing the D formation
  • Trevor should have gone down quick when Strange didn't chip effectively
  • That play shouldn't be in the 4 minute sub-group of plays when we have a lead
  • Injuries happen in football
  • We should always stay aggressive
  • Aggressive is good, but get real, that was dumb
  • Sit Trevor
  • Don't sit Trevor
etc , etc

Personally - My speculation is he has an MCL strain and not a tear and he'll play through it unless it worsens significantly and we'll forget about it in a few weeks.

If he can't go Thursday - he'll get time to heal up and we can worry about the injury much less after the "mini-bye"

I'm good with either of those fairly predictable outcomes and I doubt it impacts our season significantly

Hate that he got hurt, but we've already seen him take ~20 hits this year that all could have resulted in injury. Every time he steps out there he's in danger. It's a fine line to tightrope walk between protecting him and playing it too safe offensively. I choose to err on the side of keeping the pedal down even though I wish they'd have called a play that exposed him less right there. So in the end - I'm good with the call and hope they remember it when we have a lead late in games moving forward. (i.e. - don't do that again)

Remember in his rookie year and second year, we all vacillated between "they should dial up more QB runs, he's good at it" and "too many QB runs are gonna get him hurt"?

This is sort of an extension of that conundrum, and we're getting a glimpse of the downside to it.
Hopefully it turns out to only be a glimpse.

Jordan Peele is a really good actor.  Is that Colin Hanks to his left?

I liked how he praised the line for giving him time on that TD to Strange.

If they could give him that kind of time just four to five times per game he's probably going to more than likely put the ball on the money 99.9% of the time.

Those few instances are all this team needs with the way this defense is playing.
