I heard something about that early in the season but I'm not sure it was true or not. And even still, first year in a system after being away for 1.5 years of course there's an adjustment period. Ridley for sure should be extended.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

I would hope he'd take a reasonable deal to stay in Jacksonville and not just look for a big pay day with a bad team. Which is what he'll get if he is asking for elite WR money.

No more than any other NFL QB and X. (11-08-2023, 10:12 AM)NYC4jags Wrote:(11-08-2023, 08:20 AM)NoShoes Wrote: It almost seems like Zay is more important than Ridley. So sort of a Mia-ism....

I heard her live on the radio the day after that game speculating that maybe that was why he was the first to race off the field and head to the locker room instead of celebrating around the sideline with teammates. It blew up on twitter and elsewhere after her radio comments. Turned out to be total nonsense. Ridley has displayed a great attitude and team first mentality over and over agin since arriving. Apparently by Mia. Not saying I don’t like Ridley, I absolutely do. But would y’all pay 20+ plus mill to retain him? The back half of the season will answer that, but if it ended today idk that I would. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! If it's twitter, that's just below message board reliability, so take it as you wish. How many bad routes do YOU think Ridley has run this season? What have YOU seen? And no, we aren't making this decision today. Ridley has lots of work to do before we have to decide anything. It will likely end up being an obvious decision one way or the other. I'm not worried about it at all. In fact, I'm thrilled that we are in a position that we might have too many really good players to afford retaining. Frankly the only folks that know if this an issue are inside the building. We don’t know what routes are called for. It’s not outside the realm of possibilities she had a source tell her off the record, but idk. Just sharing what was seen, always take all of it with a grain of salt. Mostly I'm just saying that she gets attributed with the pouting remark which she didn't say, that was one of the other guys. Regardless I agree it was blown out of proportion, especially since there was no other context provided on it. Like why he left the field early or what the issue is with the routes. He also is clearly happy and vibing with the team, just watch him run after Etienne and spike the ball after his TD against Pit. We show less advertisements to registered users. I heard her live on the radio the day after that game speculating that maybe that was why he was the first to race off the field and head to the locker room instead of celebrating around the sideline with teammates. The whole discussion on 1010 started because they were talking about a #1 receiver for another NFL team throwing a fit on the sideline and making comments on SM because he wasn't targeted in a game his team won. Mia introduced the post game quick exit of Ridley the day prior to THAT discussion implying perhaps his motivation for doing that was similar sour grapes. She was speculating that he was upset about not being more than a decoy and the others went on for several minutes about it as if this was actually the case. Which was stupid. I don't have a problem with Mia outside of this and one other incident she was wrong about, but this was irresponsible speculation that drove much of a fanbase to malign a guy unworthy of the false criticism. Maybe you heard a different segment than the one I heard. The whole XL prime-time crew was being unfair in their speculation about #0 and Mia brought Ridley into the "disgruntled receiver" discussion. Of course Ridley came out 2 days later saying what he'd already said 3 times publicly in the past 6 months - that he doesn't care about stats, just wins. (11-08-2023, 04:02 PM)Cleatwood Wrote: So Ridley running the wrong routes is bogus. I think so. Dude had a 2 game stretch where he had to get over a little case of the drops. Big deal. I can think of two times this year when Trevor thought he was going somewhere else and the two of them looked at each other after the play and each attempted to point at themselves and take blame for the miscommunication. He has looked really good since even when not targeted and I get the feeling we are just seeing the typical mindset of a modern sports fan with this stuff. Folks these days have the patience and attention span of a flea and unrealistic expectations. They also seek out drama and manufacture it when it doesn't exist. Ridley will probably log 2 or 3 more 100 yard games before the year is up and some of the negative voices will fade (for a while) We show less advertisements to registered users. So for happen sake he does get 2-3 more big games and finishes around 70 balls and 1000 yards. His camp wants a deal bigger than what we gave Kirk, are you paying him? (11-08-2023, 04:46 PM)NoShoes Wrote:(11-08-2023, 04:02 PM)Cleatwood Wrote: So Ridley running the wrong routes is bogus. Kirk's deal will be 2 years old when it's time to negotiate one for Ridley. It has no bearing. The market will decide what Ridley gets paid. My decision on whether or not to pay Ridley comes down to what he does to finish the year in terms of impact, and what we are able to do with the cap to retain other players whose impact will be weighed against Ridley's impact. How many impending free agents do we keep and how many we can afford depends on much more than a 70 catch 1000 yard stat line. If we keep winning games and see this offense finally hit a stride - I'd do everything in my power to keep that going into 2024. And I'd pay the going rate for Ridley's services if I can afford it and justify how that affects other expenditures. |
